God tells Sarah that she will give birth in old age, and she laughs! Did she think it was a joke? Was it a nervous laugh, an incredulous laugh? Shock, joy, fear, excitement? Maybe all, mixed together? God’s news certainly surprises the 90-year-old Sarah, just as God’s actions surprise and excite us today.
Ever-living God, thank You for the joyful surprises. Console us through the fearful surprises, accompany us through the shocking surprises, celebrate with us through the exciting surprises. Your presence is steadfast, Your presence is sure. Amen.
