The monthly newsletter of the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network
In this season of thanksgiving, we are thankful for all our volunteers and members across the state. Your energy and devotion, your knowledge of local needs, and the guidance you provide to our Regional Directors and other staff have helped make TSPN what it is.

Staff at our central office and across the state (with assistance from TAADAS) are working assiduously to cover gaps caused by our recent staff transitions. In the meantime, TSPN and our regional networks are planning awareness and outreach activities this month and throughout the holiday season. Please direct any questions to your TSPN Regional Director or to TAADAS Executive Director Mary Linden Salter at marylinden@taadas.org.

We remain available to coordinate your training, outreach, and other event requests. As always, we look forward to working with you to spread the message of suicide prevention and mental health awareness throughout the state of Tennessee and beyond. We wish all of you who celebrate a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving holiday.

Roughly 120 first responders from across the state attended "Answering the Call", the inaugural conference of TSPN"s First Responder Suicide Prevention Task Force, held October 24-25 at the Drury Inn in Franklin.

Breakout sessions focused on training sessions to help law enforcement, firefighters, emergency department personnel and others understand how to help emotionally distressed or suicidal people they encounter on their calls. They also learned how to watch for the signs of burnout and mental distress among their buddies and within themselves.

Our keynote speaker was Marc Junkerman, a faculty member of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) and developer of the Planning to Thrive (P2T), which helps both people and organizations create cultures of wellness.
Major Danny Jones, one of our presenters, addresses the occurrence of and response to trauma in first responders.

Dr. John B. Averitt, a longtime member of TSPN's Upper Cumberland Advisory Council and part of our First Responders Task Force, takes charge of our exhibit table.
TSPN partnered with the Tennessee chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to stage an exhibit at its Memphis-area Out of the Darkness Walk, held on October 22 at the Memphis Botanic Gardens.

TSPN routinely stages training sessions at houses of worship all across Tennessee. Interested in setting one up for your faith community? You can request one directly from our website!

Community-Led Suicide Prevention
Communities play a key role in promoting hope and mental health. But how can they find resources to advance their efforts? A new, free website from Education Development Center (EDC), Community-Led Suicide Prevention (https://www.communitysuicideprevention.org), can help. The website is designed for communities and state agency, public health, and suicide prevention professionals who support them. It provides a step-by-step process and how-to tools to propel suicide prevention planning, action, and success. Explore the website and contact Julie Ebin (jebin@edc.org) to learn more.
We would like to recognize the following donors & sponsors for their generous contributions toward suicide prevention in Tennessee
