About the Program:

Unfortunately, sometimes clients going through a divorce or other family law crises wind up with a concurrent criminal case. A divorce attorney needs to understand the ramifications of criminal court orders and consequences to effectively give advice in cases where there may be competing and divergent interests at play.

You will Learn:

  • About the criminal arraignment and litigation process
  • Collateral issues for your clients, including Second Amendment issues
  • What a Fernando A hearing is and why having one is critical to protecting your client's interests
  • How the interplay between civil restraining orders, standing criminal protective orders, and orders of civil protection impact a client and case
  • When do I need to call a specialist from the other field
  • Taking the Fifth Amendment and avoiding adverse inferences

Panelists:

Attorney Aiko Suyemoto, Judicial Education Coordinator, Our Family Wizard

Taryn Berte, Professional Liaison, Our Family Wizard
