An urgent alert from the US Section of the
Women's International League for Peace and Freedom
Help revitalize the WILPF US ADVANCING HUMAN RIGHTS Issue Committee
Monday, August 30, 2021 – 5 PM Pacific Daylight Time

Please join us tonight! After two well-attended meetings, the full Advancing Human Rights Committee will meet on Monday, August 30, and Wednesday, September 29 – starting at 5/6/7/8 PM in the different time zones.

Register for the Monday, 8/30, meeting and decide which AHR subcommittee(s) you want to join!

All WILPF US members are encouraged to write to AHRchair@wilpfus.org to get connected with any of the subcommittees and/or to suggest other subjects related to human rights. The following subjects were discussed by developing subcommittees at the June 30 and July 29 meetings:

  • United Nations efforts regarding women
  • Immigration and border militarization
  • UN International Decade for People of African Descent
  • Anti-racism work by WILPF US, including book groups and resources list
  • Mass incarceration and police militarization

Several of those subjects were included in programs by other groups during the recent WILPF US online Congress; for example, the issue of special refugee immigration is pertinent to Afghanistan. Congress attendees are looking forward to sharing the recordings (by mid-September) and to working on projects of overlapping interest.

At the August 30 AHR full-committee meeting (with breakout rooms) the subcommittees will discuss working with other WILPF US issue committees on projects of mutual interest, their own ways of functioning, sharing responsibilities, meeting times and methods, etc. Subcommittees will also meet separately in September in order to have more time together to focus on work and planning. Urgently needed for the AHR committee’s page are website descriptions of the subcommittees.
