July 2026

When this past month of June began, the Kuhlanapo Wetland Preserve was recorded at the County as comprising 287.01 acres. As of June 23, 2026 the preserve has grown to 295.2 acres.

Due to the generous support of Richard and Angela Birk and the generous paddle raisers at the 2025 annual dinner who supported purchases of Big Valley wetlands, we were able to purchase 8.19 acres adjacent to Kuhlanapo. Thank you Supporters!

Several aspects of this property drew us to this purchase: It has a wetland in need of some help due to invasive species, it gives us access to more of Manning Creek for clean-up/restoration, and it is the original Wright Family Farm access route (verified in an easement in the Title Search).

The image below reveals the location of this parcel. Why are we calling it Expansion #1? Because we are hoping to continue expanding Kuhlanapo to protect/restore adjacent lands!

Please join us for this important fundraising event. In lieu of our annual dinner we are kicking up our heels and showcasing local musicians Lincoln Andrews, Matt Rothstein, Gabriel Yanez performing as Trio Americana. Through jazz, gospel, folk, and American rhythmic traditions, Trio Americana offers not just a performance, but a shared experience.

Concessions and local wines available for purchase with all proceeds benefiting the LAKE COUNTY LAND TRUST. Reserve your ticket now and let us know how important it is to you to protect, conserve and restore lands and waters in Lake County.

Land Tending at Rodman Preserve

Lake County Land Trust (LCLT) hosted 'Land Tending' day on June 28th. First, volunteers worked on locating, tagging, and clearing around Narrowleaf milkweed (asclepias fascicularis). This is the only plant monarch butterfly caterpillars can eat and is crucial for their survival. Thank you to the volunteers who are helping the beautiful monarch butterfly survive!

Next, volunteers planted California Oat Grass (Danthonia Californica), a native bunch grass. These seeds will be tended in the growing pods (see above photo) and then the seedlings will be planted this fall in LCLT's demonstration garden. Native grasses use less water, support diverse wildlife, from insects to birds and small mammals. Thank you volunteers for helping propagate native grasses!

After planting Danthonia seeds, volunteers experimented with some weed removal tools. These tools will make it easier to remove one of the worst weeds, Yellow Starthistle. It outcompetes native plants for water, sunlight, and nutrients plus it has painful spines!

A delicious lunch of turkey sandwiches, salad, and cookies was provided to all volunteers. The meal and fellowship was enjoyed on the shaded porch of the Nature Center. The next Land Tending Day is on July 19th at 10am. If you would like to join us please RSVP below.
