Good morning,
Before summer slips away - can we just agree that August is a little rude?
One minute you’re happily living your best summer life—barefoot, sandy, slightly sun-kissed, eating something cold and delicious—and the next, there are school supplies in the stores, pumpkin everything starting to make an appearance and even Halloween candy is on the grocery store shelves tempting us to take a taste. I even saw Christmas decore at a store. Can we please not rush the delight of this summer season.
Excuse me? We’re not ready. It’s still summer, and I, for one, would like to savor it.
Which got me thinking…maybe we don't need to squeeze one more thing out of summer. Maybe we don't need to cram in one last adventure or to check off every item on the imaginary Summer Bucket List.
Maybe we just need to notice what's already here.
The warmth of the sunshine, the day. The sounds of summer. The salty swim. The impromptu ice cream run. The conversation that made you laugh until your belly hurt. The morning when you didn't rush. The sunset you almost missed because you were busy doing something else.
Sometimes the good stuff is hiding in plain sight. So before summer slips away, I'm wondering, what summer moment do you want to remember?
Not necessarily the biggest moment. Maybe it's something tiny. A smell. A song. A morning. A person. A belly laugh. A feeling. Because someday, those little moments may be the ones we remember most.
And while we're lingering here at summer's doorstep, there's another question I think is worth asking: What do you want to carry into fall?
Now, before you start making your color-coded fall schedule, hear me out. I'm not talking about what you need to do. I'm much more interested in how you want to feel.
Do you want more ease? More adventure? More connection? More play? More spaciousness? More time outside? More saying yes? More saying hell no?
What are those things from the pace of summer that we can invite more of as we enter a new season?
How do you want to be this fall? How do you want to experience life?
Maybe you want to be more adventurous. Playful. Curious. Present. Brave. Connected. Joyful. Maybe softer. Maybe bolder. Maybe more willing to try the thing you've been thinking about forever. Maybe you simply want to be someone who actually stops to enjoy her own life.
Because here's the thing, you don't need a new season to become a new you. You don't need to reinvent yourself every September. You can simply take the good stuff with you. The lessons. The laughter. The courage. The joy. The things that made you feel most like yourself.
And leave the rest on the beach.
And then ask yourself:
What do I want more of?
What am I ready to release?
How do I want to feel?
Who do I want to be?
So before summer slips away, I'm inviting you to slow down just enough to notice. Take the swim. Eat the ice cream. Stay for the sunset. Laugh with your people. Do the slightly ridiculous thing. Make the memory.
Wishing you a week of light, love and laughter,
Lisa
