Happy Friday, Antioch!

GO SEQUOITS!

Our Antioch Sequoits are undefeated at 8–0 heading into tonight’s home game against Wauconda! A conference championship, a perfect regular season, and important playoff seeding are on the line.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Let’s pack the stands and support these young men and their coaches. Let’s finish 9–0!

And congratulations to our Antioch girls flag football team, who finished a perfect 7–0 in conference play, capturing the Northern Lake County Conference championship! The girls finished an outstanding 16–2 overall and advanced to the sectional semifinals. What a great season for these young women and their coaches!

Lots to be proud of in Antioch athletics this fall!

BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23

I’ll be hosting a Business Roundtable at Village Hall next Friday from 9 to

10:30 a.m. I encourage our local business owners to join us to discuss challenges, opportunities, and ways we can work together to strengthen Antioch’s business community. This is another opportunity to hear directly from businesses in addition to our regular meetings with Village administration.

And a reminder: SHOP LOCAL AND DINE LOCAL! Our restaurants and merchants employ our neighbors, support community events, and help make Antioch a great place to live. Let’s return that support!

SCHOOL DISTRICT 34 EARLY LEARNING CENTER UPDATE

At Wednesday’s packed Village Board meeting, we had our first formal opportunity to consider District 34’s proposal and discuss the concerns raised by our Planning and Zoning Board.

I’m pleased that the Village and School District reached a general compromise addressing traffic, sidewalks, pedestrian safety, and infrastructure, while creating a path forward for the new Early Learning Center. We expect a written agreement outlining the conditions to come before the respective boards in approximately two weeks.

I particularly want to thank our Planning and Zoning Board. They asked the difficult questions and identified important issues. Their recommendation was never simply about whether Antioch needed a new school - it was about making sure traffic and safety concerns were addressed. Their hard work gave us the information needed to reach a better solution.

Thank you also to Village Administrator Andrew Lichterman, District 34 Superintendent Aron Borowiak, our Village Trustees, School Board members, staff, and everyone who attended the meeting.

Despite what you may read on social media, there has been considerable cooperation and work behind the scenes. I encourage residents to attend public meetings and see these discussions firsthand. Our trustees and School Board members devote countless hours to serving this community, essentially as volunteers, because they care about Antioch.

As I said Wednesday, the Village and District 34 serve the same residents, families, and taxpayers. We owe it to all of them to work together, support our schools, protect public safety, and minimize costs.

I believe Wednesday night’s meeting demonstrated what we can accomplish through communication, cooperation, and compromise.

Have a great weekend, Antioch! Support our local businesses and GO SEQUOITS!
