A Columba Day
Like No Other!
Come for a drive-by Columba Day celebration on Sun., June 7, 12 - 1 pm. St. Columba's staff will be on hand to greet parishioners in the "Highlands of Tenleytown" at the corner of 42nd & Albemarle, rain or shine. Decorate your car with some Columba spirit and follow the bagpipe music along our "parade route:" down (south) on 42nd, and right (west) on Albemarle Street. Join us as we Live God's Love at a social distance.
The Columba Hymn Project
The St. Columba hymn holds a special place in the hearts of our parish, and we'd like to invite you to share your voice as part of The Columba Hymn Project. It's easy ... just watch here. Then visit our website and download the music and recording of the St. Columba hymn. Put on a pair of headphones or earbuds, grab your phone, make a video of yourself singing along with the recording, and then share it with us. All video clips must be submitted by Sun., May 31.

We'll put the videos together to create a virtual congregation for our online Columba Day celebration on June 7. Can't wait to hear it!

(Accompaniment - Hymn 645: "The King of Love my Shepherd is," mp3 format)
Contact  Anne Timpane  for instructions on how to submit your video.
Premiere Performance
Join us on StColumbas.online.church to hear Celtic Chorale No. 1 by Justus Parrotta on Sat., June 6, at 6 pm. Commissioned for St. Columba's 2020 Columba Day, this newly-created organ composition is based on the well-loved hymn "St. Columba." Performed by Diane Heath on the Flentrop pipe organ.
Event is about 15 minutes long.
Virtual Hymn Sing
Have a favorite hymn? Whether it’s a hymn that's sustaining you during this difficult time or one that has encouraged you during other times in your life, you just might hear it during St. Columba's Virtual Hymn Sing on Sun., June 7 at 5 pm. You can request favorites in the online chat for us to use in future hymn sings, learn a little background on the hymns we sing, and enjoy sharing music "together" in our homes. Practicing Faith
National Day of Mourning
As we mark the deaths of 100,000 people in the US from COVID-19, an unprecedented group of 100+ national faith leaders—from Christian, Jewish and Muslim traditions
representing major denominations, national faith-based organizations, local congregations, and millions of people of faith across the country—call for a National Day of Mourning and Lament. Join fellow St. Columbans for a brief (virtual) service on Mon., June 1 at 12 noon to hold silence as we join those who mourn in our parish, country, and across the world. To receive a zoom link for this service, please sign up here.
Service of Lament
As we together cross the threshhold of 100,000 Coronavirus deaths, you are invited to a virtual gathering with readings, music and prayers for people to express their laments in this time of pandemic. Led by the Rev. Susan Flanders, this service will be held Sun., June 14, 5-6 pm. Register here. Call-in instructions will follow. Contact: Susan Flanders
You Ask About Hope
This thoughtful reflection is shared by parishioner Tom Bauder in response to Joshua Daniel's Daily Bread on "Hope." ( Watch here )

"Joshua, You ask about hope. As a grandfather unable to hold and hug his five grandchildren, I am saddened by this lockdown. But despite that, you have, finally asked an easy question. For me, hope is right out my back window. I can see the back yards of four neighbors' houses and the alley between Veazey and Van Ness Streets. There are five children under five years of age living in those homes. They’ve formed an informal gang. I get great joy from watching them run, hide, jump into sprinklers, squirt each other, douse each other in wading pools, skate, ride bicycles, chase each other and drive scooters as they appear in one yard, only to disappear and reappear in another—usually accompanied by at least one parent—on an alternating basis. I love to hear them holler, squeal, sing, yell, giggle, laugh, make up games and activities and, generally, have a great time just living. Therein lies my hope. These kids are so happy and innocent. As they mature and face the world, I am sure some of that goodness will stay with them and they will be crucial in building a better tomorrow."
