Our High School Softball season has officially come to a close, and we would like to congratulate our champions, Ruby Rush!

Fall Soccer All Star Games

Our Fall All-Star Soccer Games were held on Sunday, October 3 at Red Hawk Park, featuring an exciting day of soccer for players in U8–U14!

Players selected as All-Stars were recognized for their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the season and had the opportunity to represent their teams in a special day of competition. The games provided these talented players with an additional chance to take the field, compete alongside some of the best players from across the league, and enjoy one more memorable soccer experience this season.

Congratulations to all of our Fall All-Stars, and thank you to our coaches, officials, volunteers, and families for helping make the day a success!

Winter Basketball

January brings the excitement of youth basketball back to the courts! The Fountain View Recreation Center comes alive with the sounds of bouncing basketballs, cheering families and nonstop game-day action. From the first tip-off to the final buzzer, the gym is buzzing with energy as young athletes build skills, develop teamwork, make new friends and enjoy some friendly competition. It's one of our favorite times of the year, and we can't wait to see everyone back on the court! Grades 1 & 2 are Co-ed.

For our youngest basketball enthusiasts, Pre-K Instructional Basketball at the Simkus Recreation Center offers a fun, welcoming introduction to the game! In a smaller, less intimidating setting, little players learn basketball basics, develop coordination and build confidence at their own pace. With an emphasis on fun, encouragement and learning through play, it's the perfect first step toward a lifelong love of basketball!

As the baseball and softball seasons wind down, we want to share an important reminder about the role some of our parks play beyond recreation.

Several Park District sites, including Armstrong and Jan Smith parks, are designed to help manage stormwater and protect surrounding neighborhoods from flooding. After heavy rain, fields and recreational areas may remain wet or unplayable because they are temporarily holding stormwater. While closures can be inconvenient, it means these parks are doing an important job — helping keep water away from nearby streets, homes and properties.

The 24-hour Rule

The “24-hour rule” is a helpful guideline for parents, coaches, and athletes. It encourages everyone to take a day to pause before addressing concerns or sending messages after a game or practice. Waiting 24 hours allows emotions to settle and helps create more positive, productive conversations. It’s also a great reminder for athletes — celebrate a win or learn from a loss, then move forward with a clear mind.

VOLUNTEER

Our Volunteer Spotlight series recognizes the dedicated individuals who give their time and talents to support Park District programs, events and parks. We're proud to share their stories and celebrate the difference they make in our community!
