This Veterans Day, Saline County is calling on all residents and businesses to shine a green light in support of our veterans transitioning to civilian life. From November 4th to 11th, County buildings will be glowing green as part of Operation Green Light, and we need YOU to join the movement.

“We’re proud to be part of this nationwide effort to show our veterans how much we appreciate them,” said Joe Hay, Jr., Commission Chair. “By lighting our homes and businesses green, we’re letting our veterans know they’re seen, valued, and supported. It’s such a simple gesture, but it means a lot.”

Here’s How You Can Get Involved:

• Switch to Green: Change out one light bulb in your home or business to green during Veterans Day week. Whether it’s a porch light or an indoor lamp, let’s light up the county with appreciation!
• Shop Local for Green Bulbs: You can grab green bulbs locally at Waters True Value or Ace Hardware in Salina.
• Share the Love: Snap a picture of your glowing green light and post it on social media with the hashtag #OperationGreenLight. Spread the word, and let’s create a wave of gratitude across our community.
• Make it a Year-Round Thing: While we focus on Veterans Day, consider keeping your green light on to remind our veterans that their service is never forgotten.

Operation Green Light is part of a national initiative, led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), designed to raise awareness of the challenges veterans face when returning to civilian life. It’s also a way to connect them to local resources that can help.

“This is more than just lighting up buildings,” explained Hay. “It’s about starting conversations, making sure veterans know we’ve got their backs, and spreading the word about the services available to them and their families.”

Let’s show our veterans the support they deserve. For more details on Operation Green Light and how to participate, visit www.naco.org/operationgreenlight.
