Happy 4th Birthday, Wheels of Blessings!

And happy June 11 birthday to Sister Carolyn, whose birthday wish three years ago was to "take a sandwich to a homeless person." And so on June 11, 2022, Sister Carolyn, Carolyn Bergman, and Ellen Weir headed out with 25 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fruit. When we saw the need, the suffering people on the streets, behind buildings, in the woods, we knew we had to start something permanent.

Now we begin our fourth year, and only because of the steady support and generosity of the Sisters of Mercy, Queen of the Apostles, our many donors, supporters, and volunteers. This support has enabled Wheels to go out with three teams three times a month, covering various areas of Gaston County. And, as reported in the May newsletter, we applied for and received a sizable grant from the Sisters of Mercy Ministry Fund. Wheels' Board of Directors is busy laying the groundwork to implement the grant, which will go toward adding a basic first-aid technician/caseworker. This person or persons must be knowledgeable about basic first aid and appropriate referral resources. We are calling this program Nurturing on Wheels, or N.O.W. Wheels will be further collaborating with local resources in this endeavor. We have already partnered with a longtime donor, You 1st Pharmacy in Gastonia, which will supply our first-aid materials.

The grant funding begins in August. More N.O.W. news to come in the August newsletter.
