Safety Reminders: Arrival & Dismissal

Dear Parents,

Safety is always our first priority at Académie Lafayette, especially during arrival and dismissal. As we (hopefully) transition from winter into spring weather, we would like to share a few important reminders to help ensure a safe and smooth experience for all students, families, and staff.

1. Do Not Drop Off Before Doors or Gates Open

Staff supervision begins at 7:15 am at Cherry and Oak and 7:45 am at Armour. Car riders and walkers must remain with a parent or guardian until staff are on duty and doors or gates are open. We do not have supervision available prior to these times, and student safety depends on consistent adherence to this expectation.

2. Pull All the Way Forward in Car Line

Please pull all the way forward in the drop-off and pick-up line, even during cold or rainy weather. Stopping short slows the entire line and can create traffic congestion and safety concerns. Pulling forward keeps traffic flowing efficiently and safely for everyone.

3. Avoid Early Pickups

Instructional time is valuable. Please avoid picking up your child early unless it is for a prearranged appointment or an emergency. If you must change your child’s dismissal plan, you must both call and email the school before noon so we can ensure the message is received and communicated accurately.

4. Prompt Pickup After Activities

If your child participates in after-school activities, please plan to pick them up promptly at the designated end time. Staff supervision is limited after activities conclude.

We appreciate your partnership in keeping our campuses safe and running smoothly. Consistency with these procedures helps protect all students and ensures a positive start and end to each school day.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.

Re-Enroll Now for 26-27 School Year & Summer School

Re-enrollment is now open for the 2026–2027 school year and summer school. All current families must complete the online Enrollment Survey and required forms so we can plan staffing, transportation, and student support for next year.

Académie Lafayette uses the PowerSchool Parent Portal for registration. The process is fully online and must be completed for each student who plans to return.

Please complete re-enrollment by Feb. 27th. Summer school registration must be completed by this date to guarantee enrollment. Questions? Contact enrollment@academielafayette.org.

Armour Reminders

Armour Families: Please do not drop off students or park:

  • in the bus zone on the West side of the school (Warwick Street, past the school parking lot gate).
  • in the field parking lot to park and/or drop off. Our students need those assigned spots!
  • in the International Apartment Resident Parking area off McGee Street during arrival/dismissal. Parents can use the free business parking lot.

Also, do not stop in the middle of the street to let students out of vehicles. We care about our students' safety!

Volunteers Wanted At Cherry

The Cherry library is getting ready to kick off Women's History Month for March. Cherry Robotics Lottery Sign Up for 3rd, 4th and 5th

Come build robots out of legos and program them to move, make sounds and react to colors with us at Cherry Campus! Our 3rd and 4th grade program is for getting their feet wet and trying something new. We do ask that 5th graders that sign up have a genuine interest in robotics. Sign up for the seat lottery by midnight on February 22nd. Space is limited. Scholarships are available.

Our elementary club is run entirely by parent (and grandparent!) volunteers. As a benefit for volunteering, your student will be guaranteed a seat in robotics! Sign up to get more information about volunteering.

Armour MS Math Team Wins

Earlier this month, the Académie Lafayette Middle School Math Team placed 2nd at the 2026 Western Missouri Chapter Mathcounts competition — earning a spot at the Missouri State competition in early March. This marks their fourth straight year qualifying for state.

A standout moment this year: four students placed in the Top 10 individual competitors, setting a new team record.

Mathcounts is known for its challenging problems and strong competition. These results reflect years of dedication, practice, and perseverance. Congratulations to all fourteen of our middle schoolers (and coach Kalahurka) who rose to the challenge — we are proud of you!

AL in the Community

The Banana Splitz - an AL 4th & 5th grade basketball team - was recognized during half time at a UMKC women's basketball game.

Volunteer to Read at Cherry for Black History Month

Cherry is seeking volunteers to read with our K–5 students and share their knowledge, experiences, and passion for storytelling. To support our volunteers, our school librarian will select and vet all books in advance, ensuring they are age-appropriate and aligned with our celebration. Your presence and voice can have a powerful impact, fostering curiosity, representation, and a lifelong appreciation for reading among our students.

Please click here to sign up. Thank you for your consideration and continued support of our school community!

Auction Item Solicitation Volunteers Needed!

We need YOU to join the Evening in Paris Auction Solicitation Team!

All materials are prepared - we just need helping hands to reach out to local businesses. With nearly 200 businesses still waiting for a volunteer, even a small effort makes a big difference. Many hands make light work, and since the auction is the heart of our event, your help will truly make it shine!

Have a unique item or experience to donate? Community Parties (Wine Walk, Shrimp Boil, Survivor) or special items, like last year’s lab-created diamond studs, add excitement and make the event even more memorable.

Contact Hollie Vogel if interested, hvogel@academielafayette.org.
