MESSAGE FROM THE RECTOR

I am writing to you today from Virginia Theological Seminary, where I am attending The Episcopal Church Summit on Truth-Telling and Reparations. This summit, organized by the Episcopal Office of Racial Justice and Reconciliation, is an important gathering of leaders from across the Church, including inspirational voices like Rev. Canon Chris McCloud from our own Diocese of Maryland, Bishop Marianne Budde, and my friend Rev. Glenna Huber from the Diocese of Washington.

The summit is structured around four key parts:

1. Truth-Telling – Unearthing and naming systemic racial injustices

2. Reckoning – Publicly owning and acknowledging those injustices

3. Discerning – Collectively seeking what constitutes healing and repair

4. Reparations and Repair – Practical steps for reparations and ongoing repair

Each session includes both large group presentations and smaller breakout discussions, where we can share how these vital issues relate to our own contexts. The main reason I'm here is to not only share the strong, Spirit-filled work we at All Saints have done in the past, with the main ministry of C4 being the direct result, but I'm also here to listen and learn from others doing this needed work of support justice, healing, and reconciliation, and how we as a community of faith can best continue supporting C4 in their work and keep the conversation going.

These conversations are both holy and difficult, so I ask for your prayers—for me and for all those gathered here. May our discussions be fruitful, and may God’s will guide our efforts toward justice and healing.

On a joyful note, I am thrilled to share that this Sunday we will officially welcome Deacon Chip Tucker to All Saints! We are so excited to have him join us in ministry, and I know you will make him feel at home. Please join us in giving Deacon Chip a warm and enthusiastic welcome this Sunday.
