NYC Walk: A Stroll Down Park Avenue
--arranged and lead by Warren Jahn--
Monday November 17, 2025
Rain Date: TBD
Spouses, Significant Others, and Guests Welcome!
--THE WALK--
Join a stroll down Park Avenue that will take us through several distinctly different sections of Manhattan.
Starting out from the Metro-North Harlem-125th Street station we will follow the Park Avenue Viaduct (the aboveground portion of the railroad) through a working class neighborhood to 97th street.
Park Avenue then transitions to luxury residential properties as Metro-North runs underground. Pre-war residential towers mingle with old mansions.
Around 59th street the avenue transitions to the modern office skyscrapers of midtown Manhattan. There are many famous and noteworthy buildings.
We will stop for lunch on East 47th Street and then continue down Park Avenue to Grand Central Terminal where those with less time and/or energy can catch the train back to Connecticut.
Our hardier urban explorers can join a further two mile stroll down Park Avenue (and its various other names) through rapid transitions between office, residential and retail areas to Park Avenue's southern terminus in Cooper Square.
--GETTING THERE--
Take the 9:00 AM train from Saugatuck to Harlem - 125th Street. Meet on the platform in Saugatuck by the ticket machines or find your own way to Harlem 125th Street. Scheduled arrival at the Harlem - 125th Street station is 10:00 AM where we will meet in the waiting room. (Use the stairs toward the back of the platform.)
Please tell Warren if you will not be on the train; plan to arrive at Harlem - 125th Street by 10:00 AM. The waiting room is accessed from the entrance on the uptown side of 125th street.
--RETURN TO CONNECTICUT--
The first part of the walk concludes at Grand Central Terminal. Those doing the full walk can take the #6 subway from Astor Place to Grand Central to get the train back to Connecticut
