SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY

KEEPING HOPE

President & CEO, Barbara Ann Heegan joined Karen Chrapek of Volusia Recovery Alliance and other members of the Chamber on Saturday, August 24 at the Lakeside Community Center to show support for the Keeping Hope event. This was the 6th annual Overdose Awareness & Remembrance Day presented by Halifax Health Hospice. It was held in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.

International Overdose Awareness Day acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends and remembers those who have died to due to drug overdose. The day helps reduce the stigma of Substance Use Disorder (SUD), showing that recovery is possible and overdoses can be prevented.

STRONG 4 YOU

Barbara Ann is driving force in our business community but also a strong advocate to support great causes. She was out at the Brannon Center for the Local Business Expo with member, Kim Lawler of Berlin & Denys Insurance on Friday, August 23 making a difference and championing Strong4You.org—a wonderful initiative led by local business owner Mr. Wilke to support those in need. Halifax Health Hospitals Earn Prestigious American Heart Association Stroke Care Certifications

Halifax Health is proud to announce that its hospitals have been honored by the American Heart Association (AHA) with several prestigious certifications for exceptional stroke care. These awards underscore Halifax Health's dedication to providing the highest quality, evidence-based care to the community.

Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach has earned the AHA's Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll designations.

  • Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus: This award recognizes the hospital's consistent excellence in stroke care for stroke treatment over a two-year period.
  • Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite: This designation highlights the hospital's success in reducing the time between a patient suffering a stroke arrival and the administration of clot-busting medication within 60 minutes.
  • Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll: This award recognizes the hospital's effective treatment of patients suffering a stroke who also have Type 2 diabetes, ensuring comprehensive and coordinated care.

Halifax Health - Medical Center of Port Orange have also been recognized with the Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus and Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite awards, as well as the Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. These accolades reflect the hospital’s commitment to adhering to the latest guidelines and delivering exceptional care to patients with stroke and diabetes.

Additionally, Halifax Health | UF Health - Medical Center of Deltona has received the Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Silver Plus award and the Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll designation.

  • Stroke Silver Plus: This award is given to hospitals that show consistent adherence to AHA’s stroke care guidelines over a one-year period, marking significant progress toward achieving Gold Plus status.

Jeff Feasel, President and CEO of Halifax Health, commented on these significant accomplishments: “Halifax Health is proud to have the longest-running stroke program in the area, and we are honored to be recognized by the American Heart Association for our dedication to stroke care and diabetes management. Last year alone, other hospitals called Halifax Health over 1,700 times to transfer patients to Halifax Health for care they could not provide, many of whom were patients needing interventional radiologic procedures. This is a testament to the outstanding work of our entire team, from our EMS partners who start stroke care in the field, to our dedicated staff who ensure each patient receives the highest level of care. These certifications are a reflection of our commitment to our community and our continuous pursuit of excellence.”

These awards from the American Heart Association further solidify Halifax Health's reputation as a leader in stroke care and diabetes management in the region.
