Prayer List
During these tumultuous times of the pandemic and experiences of continued acts of racial bigotry across the nation, we find ourselves groaning with the entire creation, as Romans 8 aptly describes it. May it give us hope that, just as scripture promises, exactly at times like this the Spirit helps us in our weakness, and she intercedes with us and turns our sighs too deep for words into prayer. (Romans 8:22, 26)
This week we pray:
Beth Coetzee
Prayers of comfort and strength for Beth Coetzee
and Dries, in his love and care for her. Beth will begin treatment for tongue cancer on June 8th. Dries and Beth have shared the following: “At the beginning of May, Beth was diagnosed with stage 2 squamous cell cancer from a tumor at the base of her tongue. Although it’s very treatable, the regimen of radiation and chemotherapy for six and a half weeks with be intense. In Beth’s words, ‘
as Dries and I cherish this journey towards wholeness, it is such an enormous comfort and source of strength to know that God is ever-present and that we are surrounded by the loving care of our UPC family, former faith communities, friends and family, and that great cloud of witnesses, here and in our hearts. It helps put things into perspective to know that so many of you have faced similar situations with perseverance and faith.’”
Cards may be sent to Beth Coetzee, 1820 W. Mulberry, San Antonio, TX 78201
Ferenc Relle
Prayers for healing and good recuperation for Ferenc Relle and for Candy in her love and care for him as he undergoes gallbladder surgery on June 9th.
Sara, daughter of Dawn Kridel’s friend
Prayers for healing for Sara, 20-year-old daughter of Dawn Kridel’s friend, who has been struggling with an eating disorder for the past three years. Sara was hospitalized a few days ago, because of restricted fluids and irregular pulse and blood pressure.
Prayers for safety, health, and wholeness for our Hispanic brothers and sisters who continue to endure hardship. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of the Hispanic community has been great. Locally, many Hispanics are either in unsafe work conditions or without work and without government compensation at this time. Prayers of thankfulness for your generous gifts to both the Immigrant Worker Project and to Open Arms. Here is the latest Open Arms Facebook post for your information.
Continued prayers for all of those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who lost loved ones; those among us who cannot visit loved ones in nursing homes or hospitals; and prayers for the safety of doctors, nurses, and first responders as they care for all of us and keep us safe.
We continue to grieve the murders of
Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd
, and many others.
Prayers for courage and wisdom for our communities as they engage in the work of healing and reconciliation with renewed passion and commitment.
