Sea Pines CSA Department Updates
From the Sea Pines Safety & Security Department:

Take Care, Be Aware
Safety Tips and Facts To Keep in Mind During Alligator Breeding Season

  • Alligators are cold-blooded, which means their body temperature is not constant, but changes with the temperature of the environment. For this reason, alligators are most active during the spring, summer, and fall.
  • Mating season is from late April to June. During this time, they are likely to wander from pond to pond as they search for a mate. You may hear a male “bellow” as he tries to attract a female.
  • After a courtship in which the male claims a territory and courts a female, the female lays between 20-60 eggs near a body of fresh water and covers them with vegetation.
  • Be conscious of nests near water’s edge that are covered and not easily seen. Female alligators are very protective of their eggs and young, so please be observant and keep a safe distance. To be safe while walking at dusk or after dark, always carry a flashlight.
  • Sea Pines Security places a sign where they are aware of an alligator nest.
  • Click here for more Alligator Facts and Safety Tips

If you encounter an alligator that you think is acting aggressively, immediately call the Sea Pines Security dispatch office at 843.671.7170 to report it's behavior and location.

----
Pet owners are asked to be courteous and follow pet regulations/leash laws:

  • Dogs must be restrained by a leash or fencing at all times (except when the no leash policy is permitted on the beach) and not allowed to bark for any duration that would disturb others.
  • Pet waste must be picked up and properly disposed of in trash receptacles.

A Message from Larry Movshin,
CSA Board Chairman
“Meet on The Street”
We received many comments (and saw others on Facebook) indicating a high level of support throughout the many neighborhoods in Sea Pines for our Friday “Meet on the Street” effort to recognize the first responders, security forces and medical personnel who are putting their own lives at risk to keep Sea Pines safe in light of COVID-19.

In honor of their heroism, let's ALL go outside again tonight, April 24, at 7pm, and make lots of noise for five minutes to recognize these heroes, our maintenance personnel, and the many personnel in grocery, drug and restaurant businesses who allow us to “shelter in place” more conveniently. Feel free to go beyond bells and applause to bang your pots and pans or blow your car horns – the louder the better for those five minutes. Folks enjoyed the opportunity to see their neighbors (from a safe distance, of course) and, most importantly, to confirm that Sea Pines remains strong and grateful for those who are on the front lines of fighting it for us.

See you “on the Street” at 7pm tonight!!!!
