A Weekend of Adventure with Cub Pack 122!
Cub Pack 122, chartered by the Rotary Club of Arcadia and part of the San Gabriel Valley District, spent the weekend enjoying the great outdoors with a hike through the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.
More than 70 Scouts and parents joined Cubmaster Molly Tandon for the adventure to Sunset Bench. For some Scouts, it was their very first hike, making reaching the destination an extra-special accomplishment!
Along the way, Scouts encouraged one another, explored the trails, took in the mountain views, and shared plenty of laughs. Reaching Sunset Bench gave everyone a chance to celebrate their accomplishment and enjoy the beautiful scenery together.
It was a great example of what a weekend in Cub Scouting can look like: adventure, friendship, family, and plenty of time outdoors. A big shoutout to Cubmaster Molly Tandon and the parents who helped make the day such a memorable experience for the Pack!
We love seeing what our Scouts are up to! If your unit has an adventure, activity, or special experience you’d like to share, we’d love to hear about it. Contact Cicily Gardea, Director of Marketing and Communications, at cicily.gardea@scouting.org, and your unit could be featured!

Troop 509 Takes Adventure to New Heights!
Five Scouts from La Cañada’s Troop 509 spent Labor Day weekend taking on a serious high-altitude adventure, summiting White Mountain at 14,252 feet—the third-highest peak in California!
Scouts Jonas M., Isaac H., Matthew H., John Y., and Louis C. made the challenging climb to the summit, earning the White Mountain Award, sponsored by the Orange County Council High Adventure Team (OCC HAT).
The adventure didn’t stop at the summit. The Scouts also explored Schulman Grove, home to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Along the Methuselah Trail, they hiked among some of the oldest living trees on Earth, including bristlecone pines that are more than 4,000 years old.
From climbing above 14,000 feet to standing among trees that have been growing for thousands of years, Troop 509’s weekend was certainly one to remember. It was a chance to challenge themselves, experience one of California’s most unique mountain environments, and see a side of the outdoors few people get to experience.
