Keynote Address

14th T.K. Hunt Lecture Summary

Dr. Anish Konkar was recognized as the 14th Annual T.K. Hunt Lecturer at the 2026 Diabetic Limb Salvage – Wound Healing Foundation Meeting.  He delivered an outstanding presentation on Harnessing GLP-1, GIP, and Glucagon Biology to Improve Health Outcomes.  His lecture offered a thoughtful and highly relevant overview of the evolution of incretin-based therapeutics—from earlier single-pathway GLP-1 receptor agonists to newer dual and triple agonists designed to engage GIP and glucagon biology in more integrated ways. The discussion highlighted how this progression reflects a broader shift in metabolic medicine: moving from glucose-focused treatment strategies toward therapies intended to influence weight, energy balance, cardiometabolic risk, and potentially other aspects of tissue health.

The review of how different molecules have been evaluated over time, with each generation helping to clarify the balance between efficacy, tolerability, and the distinct physiologic contributions of GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon signaling was particularly enlightening. Dr. Konkar emphasized that the field is not simply advancing by making drugs more potent, but by refining how these pathways are combined to optimize outcomes across obesity, type 2 diabetes, and broader cardiometabolic disease. Especially notable for this audience was the suggestion that these mechanisms may have implications beyond metabolic control, including a possible relationship to wound healing, inflammation, and infection-related outcomes—an emerging area that warrants close attention as the science continues to mature.

It was an exceptionally timely and forward-looking lecture that underscored both how far the field has progressed and how much opportunity remains ahead for translational research and patient care. Based on public reporting of the meeting and recent reviews of next-generation dual and triple incretin agonists, this framing of the field is consistent with current scientific discussion.

Make plans now to attend the 15th Annual T.K. Hunt Lecture in April 2027.
