April Blossoms: Embracing Growth and Discovery"

Spring is in full bloom, and so is our enthusiasm for learning and exploration! In this month's newsletter, we're thrilled to unveil a bouquet of exciting events and workshops designed to enrich your mind, body, and soul. As we transition into May, our focus turns to the beauty and vitality of flowers, with captivating offerings like the DIY Flower Fabric Brooch and the delightful DIY Crochet Flowers workshop. But our journey doesn't stop there; we're venturing into the serene landscapes of Richmond Nature Park for a rejuvenating field trip, while also delving into the art and science of healthy cooking. Additionally, we recognize the importance of caregiver well-being and are excited to present resources for stress reduction and essential caregiving skills. Plus, don't miss out on the opportunity to join the Senior summer program organized in Minoru Senior Centre, now open for registration in our community partner section. Join us as we embrace the spirit of growth and discovery this April.
Caregiver Hub Updates

If you or someone you know is exhibiting signs of caregiver stress, it is important to seek help. These are just some of the things caregivers can do to make their lives a bit easier:

  • The person under stress should go to the doctor for regular check-ups.
  • Ask family members and friends for their help and support.
  • Take advantage of community programs that provide respite and relief from caregiving, practical help with meals or housework and assistance with the care of the person with dementia.
  • And plan ahead for both the immediate future and the long term.

Caregivers' Sharing
There is no relationship more important than the one you have with yourself, and a strong connection with yourself allows you to navigate the peaks and valleys of caregiving. Being connected to yourself means being able to regularly check in with yourself, to understand your emotions, sensations, impulses, thoughts, and other responses. It’s knowing and understanding who you are, seeing your strengths and blind spots, and knowing what you need and what you desire. When you are connected to yourself, you build self-trust, knowledge, and resilience, which support your ability to care for others.

Would you like to share your stories or tips? You cannot imagine how much you could inspire or help another in the community! You are welcome to call us at 604-279-7099, or email caregivernavigator@rcrg.org.
