Lathrup Village Selected for Prestigious Recast Leaders Cohort with MML

The City of Lathrup Village is proud to announce its selection as one of six communities selected to participate in the Recast Leaders Cohort, a distinguished initiative in partnership with the Michigan Municipal League and Recast City that empowers local leaders to accelerate community and economic development.

Recast Leaders is a proven, action-oriented program designed to help municipalities build capacity, unlock local assets, and create tangible momentum toward strategic goals. Over the course of the 10-month cohort, starting in February 2026, Lathrup Village will engage in expert coaching, peer learning, and community-focused strategy building to advance smart, sustainable, and community-driven outcomes.

“We are honored to be selected for the Recast Leaders Cohort,” said Austin Colson, Community & Economic Development/DDA Director. “This opportunity reflects Lathrup Village’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and inclusive leadership. We look forward to working with municipal leaders across the region, bringing new insights and tools back to benefit our residents and local businesses.”

The program emphasizes identifying and strengthening community assets, building powerful coalitions, and removing barriers to progress. Participants will develop customized action plans focused on implementation that drives measurable community impact within the first year of graduating from the cohort.

As part of the cohort, representatives from Lathrup Village will collaborate with peers from other Southeast Michigan cities to share strategies, learn best practices, and build lasting relationships that support sustained local success.

“We are excited to bring the Recast Leaders experience to our community,” said Mike Greene, City Administrator. “This cohort strengthens local leadership, fosters innovation, and equips cities to create meaningful change that resonates with residents and local businesses.”

The City thanks its staff, partners, and residents for their ongoing support, and looks forward to sharing progress and results throughout the Recast Leaders experience.

Lathrup Village Homeowners Association

The Lathrup Village Homeowners Association is in need of volunteers from our community. COVID and other factors reduced the ranks of our Board of Directors, which prevented us from making any sort of decision as an organization. We need 5-7 new city residents to make this happen, but more are welcome. Your commitment to this cause would be an hour-long meeting monthly, from September through June. Our organization discusses issues that affect our community and strives to make positive impacts at city council meetings and community events. As in the past, we would once again like to become the welcoming voice of our residents. These are non-partisan positions.

Past organizational responsibilities included:

  • Choosing and providing monetary awards to high school seniors who live in our city
  • Hosting an annual breakfast for residents
  • Hosting a picnic for new residents
  • Promoting our organization at other community events

If you would like to join our dynamic group and make a positive impact on your community, please contact us via email: lathrupvillagehomeowners@gmail.com

Lathrup Village Snow Fall Policy

In the event that snowfall accumulations are 3+ inches, the LVPD will call the DPS staff member on call.

Priority 1

All major arterial streets are salted and plowed. These include:

  • Sunset Blvd (Roseland to Southfield Road)
  • Santa Barbara Drive (11-Mile to Roseland Blvd)
  • Bloomfield Drive (11-Mile to 12-Mile)
  • Lathrup Blvd (Lincoln Drive to 12-Mile)
  • Rainbow Drive (11-Mile to Southfield Road)

Priority 2

When Priority 1 routes are done, crews shift to Priority 2, which includes all intersections and City Hall (during office hours and when the Community Room is booked for events).

Crews salt intersections only where the majority of stopping and turning takes place. This permits "tracking" of salt beyond the intersection, and within a few days after a snow, the area is free of ice or snow for the most part. Concentrating on intersections protects the streets and environment, also saving the taxpayers' money.

Priority 3

All LV streets are plowed but not salted. This typically includes two heavy plow trucks and one pickup truck, which is primarily tasked with intersections and dead-end streets.

Property Owner/Occupant Responsibility

Snow & Ice Removal

Property owners, occupants, or their agents are responsible for keeping sidewalks adjacent to their property clear and safe. Snow must be removed within 12 hours after snowfall ends during daylight hours, or by 6:00 p.m. the following day if snowfall ends overnight. Ice must be removed as soon as possible. If immediate removal is not possible, sand or other approved materials must be applied immediately to prevent slippery conditions, and the ice must be removed as soon as conditions allow.
