Taunton River Watershed Alliance Announces Winners for 2025 Tide Calendar Contest

East Bridgewater resident Shari Sprong's "Winter Reflections" photo of Satucket River is featured in the Taunton River Watershed Alliance (TRWA) 2025 Tide Calendar as part of a slate of photographers to have their photos used within the calendar. The TRWA uses the profits made from the calendars to continue its mission of being “a voice for the river as an advocate for environmental protection, sustainable development, and responsible stewardship of our precious natural resources.”

For more information on the other winners of the contest and to see other ways the TWRA can be supported, as well as events being offered, please visit the TWRA Website.

To purchase a calendar, email director@savethetaunton.org or visit TRWA’s Watershed Center at Sweets Knoll State Park, 1387 Somerset Ave, Dighton, for $20, they do ask to call ahead to make sure the Center is open at  508-828-1101

Historical Tidbit: EB Train Station

3513 image

In 1914, East Bridgewater's Train Station was located conveniently near the center of town on N. Central Street. Close to where the auto garage is, next to the Methodist Church.

Trains could take a person as close as Whitman or Brockton or all the way into Boston.

Annual Town Census Has Mailed

The annual census is mailed to all East Bridgewater residents at the beginning of each calendar year, it is an important legal document mandated by Massachusetts General Laws. M.G.L. Ch. 51, Sec. 4 requires an annual street listing of residents as of January 1st each year.

Information from the census is added to the Commonwealth's Voter Registration Information System (VRIS). Voters are required to return the form annually to retain their active status on the voter list.

The census form does not register you to vote, if you wish to register to vote or change party affiliation you must complete a voter registration form. If you are a registered voter, failure to answer the annual census may cause you to be listed as an ‘inactive voter’ and require you show proof of residency at the polls.

The annual Street List contains the name and address for all East Bridgewater residents over the age of 17 and designates those residents who are registered voters. The updated one will be available in the spring and can be purchased from the Town Clerk’s Office for $15.00.

Please complete and return your census to the Town Clerk, as soon as possible:

  • Verify and/or complete all information listed on form, as of January 1, 2025
  • List ALL residents in dwelling unit, including pre-school children, college students, and those in military service. Birth dates are required. Make all changes in the shaded space below the printed line.
  • Enter the name and information for all new residents on any available blank line
  • Draw a single line through any resident no longer residing at the address and indicate new address, if known to you.
  • Nationality: Enter only if NOT a US citizen
  • US Veteran: Indicate Yes or No
  • Sign and return to Town Clerk; a self-addressed envelope is enclosed for your convenience.

Climate Can Do:

Doing our part to decrease Nano-plastics in the environment

To do our part, we need to stop disposing of single-use plastics as much as possible. Our throwaway culture affects our drinking water. We often prioritize convenience over consideration of long-term impacts, leading to trash cans filled with plastic and roadways littered with single-use bottles. These plastics break-down over time leaching nano-plastics into our drinking water.

Let's work together to make a change.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Replace plastic water bottles with a refillable one
  • Bring your own take-out container for restaurant leftovers or frequent restaurants that use earth-friendly containers
  • Wash and reuse any plastic containers you get with purchases
  • Purchase drinks in cans or glass, not plastic (That plastic bottle is leaching nano-plastics into your drink)
  • Purchase laundry and dish detergent in Pods or Sheets instead of plastic bottles

Together, we can do it!

Innovation:

Earth friendly lifestyle changes are here; bringing about new industries and ways of living that don't harm the planet.

For energy sourcing, offshore floating wind farms are further out in the ocean, less in the way and more productive: As reported by John Upton of Climate Central and Clarisa Diaz of Quartz: Wind farming is "bringing job training for a growing army of maintenance workers known as wind energy technicians. The skills are being taught by hundreds of community colleges and other training institutions nationwide." Offshore wind farming has been booming in Europe for decades and morerecently across parts of Asia. "... oceans are reliably blustery places. Calculations by the nonprofit Environment America indicate that offshore wind farms could provide almost all of the power Americans need by 2050. That means keeping the lights, heaters, and air conditioners on and fueling a nation’s worth of electrified cars, trucks, and transit systems, all from coastal wind farms."

Looking forward folks: imagination, innovation & change for better living in sync with the environment. It's exciting.
