What's happening this week:

Fall is here. The colors are changing, there's a nip to the air and Halloween is right around the corner. I really do love this time of year. My only complaint is when the leaves start to fall on the bike paths they tend to get a little slippery, but I guess that is a first world problem and I should get over it.

As we mentioned last week, it is time to start thinking about Thanksgiving. You will start seeing news stories about the shortage of turkeys, and that is real. With the avian flu that happened earlier this year (hence, the high chicken prices recently) there was a shortage created and they will just not catch up in time. We have ordered about 1000 turkeys at each store and we are 100% certain we will get all of those, however if we run out, there will be no other options so I can not stress enough that you NEED TO GET YOUR ORDER IN EARLY THIS YEAR!!!!!

Also, the deadline will be on Sunday November 20th, After that date, we will not take any more orders, add-ons or changes and we will likely just have our phone on the auto answer mode due to shortages in staff as well.

The Meating Place:
Sale items for Casey's Market:
(Prices good in Western Springs only)
Boneless Rolled Pork Roasts
$5.98 lb.
Zinfandel
Petite Tenders
$11.98 lb.
With just my wife and I at home these days it is tough to come up with some ideas for dinner for only 2. One of the things I miss is having a nice Boneless Rolled Pork Roast cooking away in the oven and eating it with mashed potatoes & green bean casserole but what I have found now is using the leftovers in creative ways. Personally, for the pork roast I LOVE to make BBQ Pork for leftover the next night. It's super easy to slice the pork nice and thin and I am sure that you have a bottle of BBQ sauce somewhere in the fridge so that makes it even easier! The one tip I can give on the pork roast to make leftover better, don't over cook the roast the first time. Pork should be cooked to an internal temp of 145 and it will be pink on the inside, and these days that is how you want it and it is 100% safe as long as you get to 145.

Next up is an item that I never expected to be such a hit. I was never a wine drinker so the flavor on the Zinfandel Marinated Petite Tenders was not my favorite when we first tried it on its own, but once we marinated the petite tenders in it, that changed everything!! Not only is the petite tender super flavorful and tender on its own, once you add this marinade you will extremely glad you got this cut! Simply baked at 350 for about 30-35 minutes or grilled/pan fried for about 7-8 minutes per side and you meal is ready.

Fresh Homemade Meatloaf
$6.98 lb.
Crab Stuffed Tilapia
$10.98 lb.
As we shift into some more fall-like cooking habits I sure love going back to some of the comfort foods that have taken the break over the grilling season. Meatloaf is one of those that comes to mind. Our Meatloaf is pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. I know a lot of times if you make something yourself it might be better than "store bought" but really, who is making a meatloaf at home from scratch and not using the McCormick package? How is that going to be better than us making it and not having to make a mess in the kitchen? It isn't, so just come get one from us.

One of the other items that takes a break in the warmer months is the Crab Stuffed Tilapia. This one is so darn good and I do not think enough people have tried it. I know, I know. You don't like fish. I get it, but this could not be any more user friendly. Tilapia is the mildest fish you can get and it basically has no flavor (sorry, but it doesn't) and the stuffing is so darn good that it gives you all the flavor you could want and that is certainly not a fishy flavor. Just baked in the oven for about 30-35 minutes at 350 and you have a wonderful seafood meal.

Boar's Head
Black Wax Cheddar
$9.59 lb.
Meat Lasagna
$6.98 lb.
Lasagna. Everyone has the best recipe. My wife does. Hers is awesome but here's the issue with that, it takes all day to make and it serves like 8 people. I love her lasagna but not for dinner 4 days in a row so I found the cheat for when I have a hankering for lasagna and that is the one we have in our deli. This is one of the few items we do not make from scratch because of how long it does take to make and the fact that this one is so darn good its just not worth it for us. Try some this week and let us know what you think compared to yours.

Boar's Head Imported Swiss

Broccoli Raisin Salad
$6.98 lb.
I only learned of golden raisins in the last couple years. I just thought raisins just came one way, in a small box that the creepy guy down the street gave out for Halloween. I was not a fan, but once I tried the golden raisins I now understood the hoopla and this week we have our Broccoli/Raisin Salad on sale and said raisins used are the golden raisins so it will be delicious for sure!
This week's words to live by:
This is truly my favorite time of year.:

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.
