Businesses Will Not Recover Until We All Recover
That is why we and others within the national Chamber network will be taking time to pause and reflect this week on September 30, Canada’s first National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. If you are a member of the Chamber and are planning something special let us know so we can recognize your efforts.
There are many resources available both for residential school survivors and for the general public. It is important that we take the time to learn and reflect on this day and move forward together. And don't forget to wear your Orange on Thursday. Here are some of resources that may help you plan your day and deepen your understanding of reconciliation:
Resources, information, and activities planned to recognize this day and week
At the NCTR, survivors, their families, educators, researchers and the public can examine the residential school system more deeply with the goal of fostering reconciliation and healing.
Read the TRC’s 94 calls to action, final report and more.

Chamber Members Featured in Last Week's Straight from DeHart Column
A tip of the hat to a couple of our members who were recognized recently in Straight from DeHart, the regular column authored by Chamber Board member Councillor Maxine DeHart. She noted Summerhill Pyramid Winery has brought home a major international award. Their 2020 Estate Grown Biodynamic Muscat was awarded Gold and named in the Top 10 wines of the competition at the 2021 Muscats du Monde in France. Michael Alexander is the winemaker and Jesse Brooks is the vineyard manager at Summerhill. The vintage is sold out at the winery but available at select wine retailers around BC.
The column also saluted Lucas Griffin, the founder of Secure-Rite Mobile Storage for having launched a video that tells the tale about the pursuit of entrepreneurship, the unconditional love a mother and father have for their son, and the sacrifice involved in creating a new business. The Life Fits Here story is the Secure-Rite story. Take a look. You will enjoy it. (Lucas Griffin who was a Kelowna Chamber BDO Top Forty over 40 Honouree in 2021.)

Canadian Chamber Post-Election Statement: It's Time to Get Serious About Economic Growth
With an election that lacked a meaningful debate on the economy, it is critical for Parliament and the government to resume the business of governing the country. Canadians want less politics and more leadership from their elected officials. Businesses and the millions of Canadians they employ need action on two critical issues: safely managing the fourth wave of the pandemic without further lockdowns and implementing a strategy to restore economic growth to address our urgent and growing fiscal challenges.

Mental Health and Canadians: Employer and Employee Surveys
The Mental Health Commission of Canada and the Canadian Psychological Association, in partnership with Saint Mary’s University, are conducting research to better understand how mental health services are being accessed and provided. Your participation and assistance with sharing the survey would be appreciated. There are two surveys: one for employees and one for employers. Surveys close in October. The Kelowna Chamber is pleased to join the Canadian Chamber in communicating this opportunity to our members and the business community.

Vaccine Card with QR code now Only Way to Enter Some Businesses
As of yesterday, the BC Vaccine Card is the only acceptable proof of vaccination for British Columbians to enjoy certain businesses and recreational events.
The transition period, which allowed people to present their paper record of immunization received at the time of their vaccination appointment, ended on Sept. 26. The Vaccine Card requirement is applied in certain discretionary settings, including most restaurants and indoor events, through provincial health officer orders. The Province says this requirement helps ensure that businesses can stay open and people can feel safe in these settings, while continuing to increase vaccinations throughout the province. People can get their BC Vaccine Card online at gov.bc.ca/vaccinecard
