Hello October!

Let's hear it for pumpkin spice season!!

In addition to October being a tasty and cozy time of year, it is also mid-way through the fall term! When we are very busy, time certainly flies by at a rapid pace. Did you know, there are only 11 weekends left in 2024? In the meantime, we have plenty of activities and events for students and parents still to come. See the latest information below!

NDE Staff Professional Development

November 18

Mark your calendars for the upcoming professional development session from NDE on Monday, November 18th. This was originally scheduled to be an in-person event but during the training in August, NDE decided to make this a virtual session.

Record Year for GEAR UP College Freshmen

It's true! The Fall 2024 enrollment of GEAR UP seniors into NSHE colleges and universities increased 10% over fall 2023! Following the add/drop period, we had over 550 college freshmen that were recent graduates from our five GEAR UP high schools! This is one way we can see the impact of our program and all of the work and effort we put into it! Great job team!

More Doors from MCHS!

National GEAR UP Week!

From September 23rd-September 27th, GEAR UP programs all over the country celebrated National GEAR UP Week. National GEAR UP Week is an annual event but this year marked the 25th anniversary of GEAR UP! Our program participated as well. Our schools celebrated in their own ways which included various career and/or college fairs and in Mineral County, the faculty decorated their classroom doors to represent their alma maters. What a fun way to support the college going culture!

New NSHE Intro Events

This week and next, the NSHE FYCAs will be hosting the NSHE intro events. As previously mentioned, these events were changed from the college and scholarship fairs we used to do in prior grant years, to a new format that will include families while still including our scholarship friends. Each event will be individualized by school district and is being held after school hours. They are designed to provide a wealth of information on a number of topics such as the NV Promise Scholarship (including completing the application), FSA IDs, campus housing, career services, and more! The CCSD event was held on October 15th. Pahrump Valley HS will be held on October 17th, and Mineral County HS will be held next week on October 23rd.

Good-Bye to Morgan!

We are very sad to say "good-bye" to one of our FYCAs. Morgan Haynes, CSN FYCA has been with the GEAR UP program since the last grant cycle where she was the GEAR UP Ambassador for CSN. Recently, Morgan has been working on earning her master's degree in healthcare administration. She will be moving on to a new position that is related to both healthcare administration and working with grants. It sounds like the perfect role for her.

We wish you all the best in your new role, Morgan! We will miss you!!
