Volunteer Spotlight
As we close out our first year as Pathways, we're reflecting on the incredible community that makes our mission possible. One volunteer, who prefers to remain anonymous, has been with us for nearly four years and continues to be a vital part of our pantry team.
This volunteer first discovered MCUM during the COVID-19 pandemic, when they saw our name on a list of volunteer opportunities. What began as a way to help during a difficult time has grown into a lasting commitment. Over the years, they have assisted with painting and small projects around our buildings, but their heart has always been with the pantry.
They recall their early days with the pantry fondly:
"There were people who used to come each month, and I started building relationships with community members. I realized that the people who came to the pantry worked hard and were extremely grateful for the services we provided."
Having volunteered through our transition to Pathways, they have seen firsthand how our rebranding and program changes have strengthened our impact:
"This new mission is pretty cool. We are helping the families under our services and making a lasting impact in their lives."
For them, volunteering is not just about giving back but about gratitude:
"We don't know how fortunate we are."
They said that helping at Pathways made them realize how lucky they are, and they hope to continue to "do a little good in this world."
As we celebrate the end of our first year as Pathays, we are proud to have focused our mission on the families at Compass Early Learning Center. Volunteers like this help remind us that our work is not only about providing resources but about building relationships, fostering gratitude, and creating lasting community impact.
