Solar Streetlight Pilot Program Installation Complete

The City of Beachwood’s Solar Streetlight Pilot Program installation is complete, marking an important step toward a more sustainable, energy-efficient future. The new solar-powered SmartLights have been installed along Beachwood Boulevard and Ranch Road, introducing innovative, environmentally friendly lighting to our residential areas.

Each SmartLight features an adaptive lighting profile that automatically adjusts brightness based on sunset and sunrise. Designed to be dark-sky compliant, these lights minimize light pollution while enhancing nighttime visibility. The units include wireless monitoring for real-time performance tracking and efficiency.

The pilot is expected to run for a minimum of two years, allowing city officials to evaluate factors such as the impact of winter weather, battery performance during low-sunlight periods, and the overall effectiveness of the system.

Residents are encouraged to visit Beachwood Boulevard and Ranch Road to experience the new lighting firsthand. Your feedback is important! Please share your impressions by emailing pilot@beachwoodohio.com. Community input and performance data will help determine whether this program will expand throughout Beachwood.

Help Shape Beachwood’s 2025 Deer Management Plan

The City of Beachwood is preparing for the 2025/2026 Deer Management Program and invites all residents to complete the 2025 Deer Management Survey, now available online

This year’s survey includes questions about potential new strategies—such as deer sterilization—as we look for effective, non-lethal ways to manage the local deer population. Your input will help evaluate the feasibility of this option alongside expert recommendations and cost analysis.

Our partnership with Shaker Heights was recently recognized by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as a model of regional cooperation. Building on that success, we’re working with neighboring cities to expand efforts and identify new program sites.

Your feedback is important. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and help guide the future of deer management in Beachwood.
