National Accounts Executive of the Year
Health system supply chain executives might not realize it, but their job closely parallels that of the national accounts director. Both work to sign win-win contracts, both promote standardization as a way to achieve operational and clinical efficiencies, and both continually monitor participation in contracts.

In other words, both want to maximize value. Watch for the October issue of the Journal of Healthcare Contracting, in which Patric Merritt, senior director of national accounts and strategic alliances for Cantel, will give supply chain executives a glimpse at how national accounts directors do what they do – and why! Patric was recently named National Accounts Executive of the Year by the Association of National Accounts Executives.
Kaiser Permanente net income soars to $2B
  • Kaiser Permanente's net income more than tripled during the second quarter of 2019 compared to a year earlier, hitting $2 billion, up from $653 million.
  • Revenue at the Oakland, California-based system rose 9% to $21.4 million. The boost in revenue was in part due to an increase in membership and lower risk adjustments among its Affordable Care Act membership.
  • Kaiser's insurance membership grew modestly from 12.2 million as of last year's second quarter to 12.3 million.
