🌽 Annandale Farmers Market Is Open for the Season!

The Annandale Farmers Market is back, and I was excited to kick off the season with a strong community showing. I had the honor of ringing the bell right at 8:00 a.m. to officially open the market, marking the start of another fantastic year of fresh produce, local goods, and neighborly connection.

I also had the privilege of presenting the Proclamation Honoring Ron Kendall for his service on the Park Authority Board, recognizing his dedication to preserving and expanding our treasured parklands.

It was great to catch up with so many of you, meet new vendors, and, of course, grab a coffee from Unique Coffee, who kept everyone energized with their signature brews.

The market runs every Thursday morning at Mason District Park. I hope to see you out there supporting our amazing local community!

Board Matters Recap: What Passed at the Last BOS Meeting

🏞 Honoring Ron Kendall – Fairfax County Park Authority

We proudly recognized Ron Kendall for his incredible service and leadership with the Fairfax County Park Authority. His dedication has expanded access to our beloved parks and preserved open spaces for future generations, a true legacy of stewardship and equity in the outdoors.

🩺 Honoring Rose Chu – Health Care Advisory Board

We also celebrated Rose Chu for her many years of service on the Health Care Advisory Board. Her thoughtful advocacy and leadership have helped shape Fairfax County’s health care policies and improved access to care across our community.

💨 Air Quality Awareness Week (May 5–9)

Clean air is essential to public health. We passed a Board Matter recognizing Air Quality Awareness Week and encouraging everyone to take small steps that add up, whether it’s using public transit, reducing energy use, or learning more about local environmental efforts.

🏳️‍🌈 LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June)

As June approaches, we reaffirmed Fairfax County’s commitment to celebrating and supporting our LGBTQ+ neighbors. Pride Month is a reminder that inclusion, dignity, and equity are values we strive to uphold every day.

👮 Police Officers Memorial Day (May 15) & National Police Week (May 12–18)

We honored the memory of officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and expressed deep appreciation for those who continue to serve with integrity and dedication.

Revitalization News

County Looks to Brand Commercial Revitalization Districts in the Mason District

The Fairfax County Community Revitalization Section (CRS) of the Department of Planning and Development is seeking community input into the design of gateway and banner signage for Bailey’s Crossroads and Seven Corners. In this effort, CRS is partnering with the Crossroads and Corners Coalition (C3) and the Mason District Supervisor’s Office, and has retained the services of graphic design consultants Torti Gallas/Ashton Design. The goal is to define each area and give them a recognizable identity and brand. Gateway signs and banners will help identify the boundaries of each area, highlight special places, and convey each community’s unique character, while putting them into context within the greater Mason District of Fairfax County.

An online survey will launch next week to solicit community input into the special characteristics and history that help define each area and how those things can be reflected in the design of gateway signage. The survey will be the first step in the community engagement process for designing the gateway signs. Following the survey, CRS’s graphic design consultants will create two concepts for each district and share them with the public for additional comment and refinement before selecting the final designs.

This is a prime opportunity to guide the aesthetic identity and branding of Bailey’s Crossroads and Seven Corners to enhance the sense of place in each area. Please share your candid thoughts and encourage your friends and neighbors to participate in this exciting public process.

For more information and to find the survey when it launches next week, visit the CRS website.
