Opening Prayer
Canticle of the Sun
The Highest, all powerful, good Lord,
Yours are the praises, the glory, the honour, and all blessing.
To You alone, The Highest, do they belong,
and no man is worthy to mention Your name.
Be praised, my Lord, through all your creatures, especially Sir Brother Sun,
who brings the day; and you give light through him. And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendour! Of you, The Highest, he bears the likeness.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars, in heaven you formed them clear and precious and beautiful.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind, and through the air, cloudy and serene, and every kind of weather through which you give sustenance to Your creatures.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water, which is very useful and humble and precious and chaste.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom you light the night and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Mother Earth, who sustains us and governs us and who produces varied fruits with coloured flowers and herbs.
Praised be You, my Lord, through those who give pardon for Your love, and bear infirmity and tribulation.
Blessed are those who endure in peace for by You, The Highest, they shall be crowned.
Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Bodily Death, from whom no living man can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin.
Blessed are those who will find Your most holy will, for the second death shall do them no harm.
Praise and bless my Lord, and give Him thanks and serve Him with great humility.

Recap: Episcopal Creation Care Gathering 2026
The annual Episcopal Creation Care Gathering (ECCG) was held over four days in September at the Proctor Camp and Conference Center near Columbus, Ohio. More than 70 creation care leaders from across 30 dioceses joined in learning, worship, fellowship, and workshops. And campfires. And farm chores. And porch conversations.
Keynoting the event was The Rt. Rev. Cathleen Bascomb, Consultant to The Episcopal Church for the Eco-Region Networks of Creation Care. Cathleen led off the event with reflections on “Holy Callings for All Creation” using scripture, art, and experience. Episcopal Eco-Regions and how the myriad creation care ministries within the Episcopal Church work together were central topics throughout the event.
Creation care leaders with long experience across the church were present to lend wisdom and offer insight. Over a dozen workshops hosted conversations ranging from land justice to regenerative spirituality, preaching, green teams, scripture, theology, and engagements with eco-justice and the Beauty Way. It was an event rooted in conversation, connection, prayer, and reflection.
Worship experiences held in dimly lit chapels, outdoor labyrinths, woods, and around campfires included celebrations of wild church, Terra Divina, encounters with eco-grief, and a farm to table Eucharist.
To see pictures, comments, and celebrations of the event, go to the ECCG Facebook page. The 2027 annual ECCG will be held at the Proctor Center on April 15-17, 2027. Stay tuned and informed.

Leadership Coaching Project
What do you need to excel in your ministry? What connections do you need to make to build your community? Answer these questions and more through coaching.
Coaching is a dialogue between a coach and an individual, group, or team to find creative ways to solve challenging problems or improve team performance on key initiatives.
The coach's role is to draw out expertise through inquiry, curiosity, and challenges so that clients can stretch into their best selves.
Lay leaders, deacons, priests, and bishops are all invited to consider coaching. The focus on coaching will always be generated by the coachee; the coach is a partner who listens deeply and asks powerful questions to help the coachee set attainable and timely goals.

Northern Michigan Fall Visitor’s Weekend!
Oct. 22-26, 2026
Visitors Weekend is a longstanding tradition in the Diocese of Northern Michigan welcoming guests to immerse themselves in an ecclesiology of baptismal ministry.
This is an opportunity to visit local congregations, talk with diocesan staff and missioners, explore new ministry initiatives (such as U.P. Wild Church, and Healing with our Indigenous neighbors), and engage with others who are passionate about a collaborative way of being engaged in the work of Jesus.
Visitors should plan to arrive by Thursday evening. An introduction to our practice of mutual ministry with conversation will take place Friday morning through early afternoon. All are invited to participate in a convention workshop on Living Stories Sermons on Friday afternoon, followed by the Eucharist, and then to experience our collaborative approach to Convention on Saturday. Sunday morning, visitors are invited to attend one of our congregations to experience how our approach looks in our regular, local contexts. Sunday afternoon we hope to have an opportunity to experience U.P. Wild Church, our new, locally led spiritual communities that are growing quickly in at least seven places around the Upper Peninsula, in a unique partnership with the ELCA. We will then have time for reflection, conversation, and supper.
More information and registration is available here. Please register now!
Financial Assistance for travel and lodging may be available, especially for students, and can be requested on the registration form.
Contact Steve Godfrey (sgodfrey@upepiscopal.org) or Rayford Ray (rayfordray@upepiscopal.org), 906-228-7160, with any questions.

Iconography Retreat
December 8-13, 2026
We are thrilled to invite you to join us at Bellwether Farm for an Iconography Retreat.
In the Christian tradition, icons are not painted — they are written. Each brushstroke is a form of prayer, each session a movement toward contemplation. This December, during the sacred waiting of Advent, Bellwether Farm invites you to write your own icon of Our Lady of Tenderness — one of the most beloved images in the history of Christian art, depicting the tender embrace of Mary and the Christ child, cheek to cheek.
No artistic experience is required. Only a willingness to slow down, pay attention, and let the work of your hands become the work of your spirit.
Led by Iconographer, Catherine Harrison and The Rev. Meghan Carlson of St James Episcopal Church in Wooster Ohio.

Vote Faithfully
“Vote Faithfully” (Information pulled from June 2, 2026 Episcopal News Service)
Beginning in June, the Episcopal Church has been providing a series of online events to help educate Episcopalians on nonpartisan ways we and our congregations can support civic participation in our communities. These “Vote Faithfully” voter engagement efforts for the 2026 midterm and General elections have been organized by the church’s Public Policy and Witness team. The last half hour networking Zoom call is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Eastern on Nov. 5. Registration is available here.
Allison Duvall, senior manager of church relations and engagement has stated that “One of the most important ways we can show a healthy patriotism is by helping our neighbors exercise their democratic right to vote.” The church’s online networking series has been just one of the ways that Episcopal leaders are encouraging greater involvement in the democratic process. For several years, the Washington, D.C.-based Office of Government Relations has compiled, updated and expanded a selection of voter engagement resources that can be tailored to local efforts across the country. “We recognize election engagement as an act of Christian stewardship and a tangible way to love our neighbors,” the Office of Government Relations says on its election engagement webpage. “Our mandate to care for God’s world and people compels us, morally and spiritually, to vote – and to help ensure voting access for others.”
The guidance thus far includes ways to register to vote, find polling places, request an absentee ballot and volunteer as a poll worker. Congregations also have a variety of options for getting involved, including assisting in voter registration efforts, offering childcare on Election Day, organizing rides to the polls, educating voters about new state election procedures and combatting disinformation about elections.
Alan Yarborough, director of government relations, has said “A lot of the resources we’ve pulled together we’ve done in partnership with other faith organizations,” By “leveraging the church as a trusted voice,” Episcopalians can share basic information in their communities with greater confidence.
Registration for the November 3rd election in some states is as early as the first week of October. These are some actions you can take this month: All voters should confirm that your voter registration is still valid. Encourage the young adults in your life to register to vote as soon as possible to be eligible to vote in the upcoming General Election. Assist the members of your congregation in verifying that their Voter Registrations are secure and that they have a way to get to the polls. If voting by mail, make your selections and mail back or drop off the ballots as soon as possible. For more ideas, check out the Election Engagement webpage provided by The Episcopal Church’s Office of Government Relations.

Book Corner
In The Illuminated Soul, Deacon Charles Rohrbacher transforms the ancient “Prayer of the Three Holy Young Men” (Daniel 3:57–88) into a luminous visual and spiritual journey. Through twenty-three hand-drawn color illustrations paired with hand-lettered text, Rohrbacher invites readers to enter the Benedicite as a living hymn of praise—offering courage and consolation amid the “fiery furnaces” especially in a world shaped by climate crisis and uncertainty.
“A quiet feast for the spirit—radiant with beauty, tenderness, and reverence. Charles Rohrbacher has created a work that feels both ancient and deeply alive, inviting readers to slow down, pray, and see the world again with wonder.”
