There are many coyote sightings at this time. Protect pets, animals, and small children. Never leave food or water out, and network with neighbors regarding sightings.
Coyotes roam our neighborhoods because they find food sources. Feeding a coyote will ultimately lead to their death.

A Higher Density Caper
Planning Commission defies voter approval
over the Holidays, quietly increasing density and traffic.
Opinion
_____________________
A grassroots group has posted signs and flyers alerting residents.
The Council will hear the matter at the February 3 meeting.
The Planning Commission recently approved increased density next to a semi-rural neighborhood at 19081 Yorba Linda Blvd. There is limited adjacent parking at Jessamyn West Park and the development will add traffic to Yorba Linda Blvd and side streets. Virtually every resident is impacted by traffic on Yorba Linda Blvd.
It is not unusual for density to increase following voter-approval as a developer looks for ways to increase profitability. Developers have also been known to support favorable candidates at election time expecting a future quid pro quo vote. Contribution are often made to that candidate(s) via out-of-town political action groups.
Two Council seats are open in 2026: Carlos Rodriguez and Janice Lim.
The City Council will hear this matter on February 3, 2026.

Residents have expressed concerns about a fence that has been placed around our caboose and mails carts that sit on the west side of Polly's Pies at Lemon and Imperial.
The fence was added as a staging area for storm drain repair work that is being done. An existing 36-inch corrugated metal pipe storm drain in disrepair is being replaced with a 48-inch reinforced concrete pipe.
There is nothing being done to the caboose or mail carts.

Jo Ann Ardanaz Obituary
Longtime resident, Jo Ann Ardanaz, passed away on January 5, 2026. She and her husband, the late Arnold “Bud” Ardanaz, moved to Yorba Linda in 1961, raised three children here, and were married for 54 years.
During her 65 years in Yorba Linda, Jo Ann worked tirelessly as a volunteer, while remaining quietly in the background. She was a longtime member of the Yorba Linda Historical Society and the Yorba Linda Woman’s Club. Jo Ann was a strong supporter of the Yorba Linda Country Riders.
The restoration of the Susanna Bixby Bryant Ranch House Museum and historic botanic garden, on the east side of our city, were near and dear to her heart. Jo Ann spent many hours assembling and displaying memorabilia at the museum and worked to make sure that the botanic garden was completed. She frequently volunteered as a docent at the museum, sharing Yorba Linda’s history with both children and adults.
Jo Ann grew up in Los Angeles where she attended an all-girls high school. Bud attended an all-boys school and lived in the Inglewood area. Bud learned farming from his father and uncle who grew lima beans and alfalfa near the Torrance airport. He dreamed of one day becoming a cowboy.
Jo Ann and Bud moved to Yorba Linda in 1961. Over the years, Bud helped friends with their cattle, eventually leading to their own ranching business, JA Cattle and Ranch Management. Their Black Angus cows thrived on 2000 acres of beautiful hillsides in Chino Hills.
Following retirement, Bud completely realized his dream, becoming a full-time rancher and cowboy with his cowgirl, Jo Ann, at his side. Following the passing of Bud, their grown children helped to maintain the business.
Jo Ann and Bud were members of a special and unique generation that is quickly disappearing, but will hopefully not be forgotten.

Training Man's Best Friend
Future canine heroes begin in small sizes and

Canine Companions relies on volunteers to nurture and train service dogs. All potential canine candidates must pass stringent medical, temperament and trainability tests.
As a non-profit organization, Canine Companions spends approximately $50,000 per dog for its lifetime of service. It relies solely on donations to fund its programs.

Canine Companions, who just celebrated its 50th anniversary, is a national organization that works to improve the lives of people with disabilities. It provides highly trained service dogs at no charge to the recipient. The organization relies on volunteers to nurture, train, and provide canines to assist those in need. There are several service teams in Yorba Linda and one Facility Dog. A Facility Dog is a highly trained task-skilled dog that works full-time at a school, a hospital or at a police department. The canine lives with its handler.
Donations Fund Service Dogs
The Canine Companion’s breeding program utilizes Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers. They partner with other service dog organizations to widen the breeding colony. All potential canine candidates must pass stringent medical, temperament and trainability tests. An estimated cost of $50,000 per dog includes breeding, placement and lifetime support for a working canine. As a non-profit organization, Canine Companions relies solely on donations to fund their programs.

Susan Spicer's Adventure Began Here!
This interesting and rewarding adventure began for Susan when she met a canine raiser in 1994 at a 4-H meeting at the Yorba Linda Public Library. Since that time, Susan has nurtured and raised 20 pups that have gone on to become service and facility dogs.
Responsibilities Vary
Susan feels that Canine Companions is the gold standard of service dogs and has volunteered for other responsibilities within the organization:
*Class leader and sitter for other puppy raisers in the Los Angeles and Orange County area.
*Flight liaison for pups that are flown in and out of local airports, transported as cargo or in private planes.
*Class Leader at the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco where six puppies were being raised by 13 inmates. Since the prison is closing later this year, the pups were removed. Susan found it to be a mutually rewarding experience to work with the inmates.
*Graduate Liaison for about 80 Orange County graduates who provide sitters, vet transport, grooming, and 411 assistance when Client Services are not available.
More about Facility Dogs
At school, they may work in special education classrooms with teachers for autistic children providing tactile opportunities, therapy or verbal skills. With principals they aid in stressful situations and reading programs. They are also used to encourage a student to come to school by giving them as assignment to feed, groom or exercise a dog. Children can earn points to have lunch with the principal or may be included in photo shoots.
In hospitals, they work with occupational and physical therapists for speech and ambulatory skills.
In police departments, the dogs may assist with witness interviews or accompany children that are taken into custody when parents have emergencies and/or are apprehended. The Facility Dog may go on the witness stand in courtroom proceedings to provide comfort. They are not emotional support or therapy dogs.

Federal investigation, Title IX Violations
Well, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District is under federal investigation by the United States Department of Education for Title lX violations. This is thanks to our three board members who voted to support men in women’s sports.
Escorted and Welcomed
Anderson and Buck escorted the trans athlete at the YLHS track meet and provided “security” for the trans athlete’s mother along with Pride at the Pier. What a slap in the face to our female athletes.
Janice Lim Again
Yorba Linda City Council member (Registered Republican and CA GOP endorsed) Janice Lim continues to stand with Anderson, Buck and Quintero and their vote against the resolution which would have stood for keeping men out of women’s sports.
Expensive, Shady Circumstances
I also am calling for the removal of attorney Todd Robbins from Atkinson, Anderson, Loya, Rudd and Romo who was hired under what I call “shady” circumstances by Anderson, Buck and Quintero and has cost our district an obscene amount of money in attorney fees in the past year.
How many federal investigations along with EEOC investigations and complaints can three board members have in a year? We shall see.

$6 Million Taxpayer Kitchen

No Transparency, Lies, Overspending
Opinion
_______________________
Thank you for sharing the video of board member Leandra Blade’s interview that focused on the Valencia High School cafeteria.
Need Transparency
The superintendent and Carrie Buck need to provide copies of the bids and explain the bid process. How can a high school cafeteria cost $6.7 million to construct? The district already owns the land, so that eliminates 30% of the facility cost. Board members Carrie Buck, Marilyn Anderson, and Tricia Quintero continue to approve projects that are completely out of line as it relates to costs and benefits.
Marilyn Anderson, Lied About Theft
During Marilyn Anderson’s re-election campaign in 2024, she claimed that Dr. Cherniss had “stolen” the $1.8 million that was earmarked for the Valencia cafeteria in order to launch the USI (sports institute). This was a bold-faced lie by Anderson, who is no stranger to lies or disingenuous statements. At that time, the project had not been brought to a vote, so how could the funds have been stolen?
The question now is if in 2024 the project cost was $1.8 million according to Marilyn Anderson, how does she and Carrie Buck and Tricia Quintero justify approving the project two years later at a cost of $6.7 million???
Impropriety, Not New for Carrie Buck
This wreaks of impropriety which is nothing new when Carrie Buck is involved. Her highly questionable financial decisions that have severely impacted the taxpayers of the school district are well documented and date all the way back to the bond issuances of 2011. Buck has been on the board since 2010, and tens of millions of dollars have been wasted and can be directly attributed to her decisions.

Spending Taxpayer Money Freely and Quietly
In a recent interview, hosted by Andy Falco-Jimenez, PYLUSD School Board Member Leandra Blades discussed a future kitchen at Valencia High School (VHS) that will reportedly cost taxpayers $6.7 million!
____________________________
Discussion Summary
*Before former Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss was effectively "removed" from his position in January 2025, by the union-backed majority board (Carrie Buck, Marilyn Anderson, Tricia Quintero), he stated that there was a bid for $1.6 million.
*The matter of a new kitchen at VHS was never brought to the school board.
*There was no transparency.
*Following Cherniss's departure, it is believed that the project was awarded to a contractor without putting it out for bids. Blades stated that the district uses the same contractor "over and over again".
*School board member Marilyn Anderson reportedly has a cozy relationship with supporters in her Valencia High School zone. The new expensive kitchen is probably a nod for their support. These union members include Sam Myovich, Jim Bell and Nancy Watkins.
*A Public Records Act Request was submitted to PYLUSD by Falco-Jimenez, asking for the information involving the bid and itemized expenses for the kitchen. He stated that the district sent back only information that he did not want, which he said "is normal".
_______________________________
Editor's Note: It is well documented by past employees who have been "let go, treated with disrespect, harassed, placed on administrative leave, and/or generally "pushed out", that you either carry water for the union or you will not have a job. And, if you are a school board member who doesn't fall in line, you will be doxed and your unrelated personal life exposed.
School "ownership" appears to belong to the union who freely spends taxpayer money as it sees fit.
Is anyone in the district brave enough to provide information via a Public Records Act request, mandated by law, that may impact their job?

Rezoning for Higher Density
You may have heard about the recent decision to rezone a parcel of land in our neighborhood to allow the construction of 62 homes on 2.6 acres (19081 Yorba Linda Blvd near Ohio). While California’s Housing Element requires cities to plan for future housing needs at all income levels, it does not require that all new housing be placed in every neighborhood. Housing needs can and should be addressed in ways that are consistent to the existing character of the neighborhood.
| | |
Semi-Rural Neighborhood, More Traffic
Most of the homes surrounding this proposed development by City Ventures are zones: RE (residential estate) RA (residential agriculture) and RDL (residential low density). Putting 62 homes on such a small piece of land is not consistent with existing community character, infrastructure capacity, and is not thoughtful long-term planning. Rezoning this parcel for a relatively large development risks changing our neighborhood in a permanent way. In additional to the change of the character of our neighborhood there is very practical concerns regarding increased traffic and the overflow of parking onto the neighboring streets.
Traffic Will Filter Into Neighborhoods
Since this development will face Yorba Linda Blvd, the traffic commission has deemed that it will be right-turn-in and right-turn-out. This will create additional traffic on Oriente and Palm as people will cut through the neighborhood to turn right onto YL Blvd which will enable them to make a right turn into the complex. In addition to that, there will probably be cars making U-turns at the traffic light at Palm and YL Blvd to make the right turn into the complex. Another big concern is regarding to the excess parking in surrounding area that that will inevitably spill onto Ohio and Palm, as well as the Jessamyn West parking lot.
Residents Can Write, Attend Meeting
The Yorba Linda Planning Commission has approved this project and it now goes before the City Council on February 3rd, 2026. It is not too late to have this project stopped. Please consider coming to this meeting at city hall. Those opposed need to fill the room with people to show them we are not ok with this big change to our quiet semi-rural neighborhood.
If you disagree with this project, we also would urge you to write a letter to Mayor Rodriguez voicing your concerns. crodriguez@yorbalindaca.gov (a secure website)
Looking for a Balance
If you oppose this increased density, is very important that we advocate for housing solutions that balance state requirements with local conditions. Higher-density development is often better suited to areas closer to transit, services, and existing urban centers, rather than semi-rural neighborhoods like ours.

250 Years of History
Remembering Our Early Days
| | On August 24, 1814, during the War of 1812, the British invaded Washington, D.C. First Lady Dolly Madison was determined to save an 8-foot portrait of George Washington, painted in 1797 by Gilbert Stuart. That was no easy feat as the painting was bolted to the wall in the dining room, making it difficult to remove from the frame, move, and transport. | | |
Three men assisted in breaking the frame and removing the portrait. Dolly instructed the men to destroy the painting, rather than allow the British to obtain it. Following the removal of the portrait, American forces within the city assisted in rushing Dolly to safety.
That evening the British set fire to the White House, destroying its interior, roof, floors, and personal Madison possessions. The British were able to claim destruction of the city and our White House, but were not able to obtain or destroy of our famous portrait. It was stored in a farmhouse for several years before returning to the White House where it now hangs in the East Room.
Washington fought in the French and Indian War, the Quasi-War with France, and the American Revolution, as Commander in Chief. He appeared to be divinely protected, surviving many dangers from gunfire and illness. He was never shot or injured in battle, even though bullets passed through his coat and horses were shot out from under him. Washington went on to serve as our first president from April 30, 1789 until March 4, 1797. He died in 1799.
In the portrait, Washington is holding a sword in his left hand, referencing his past military service. He is dressed in civilian clothes, having resigned his commission as a military leader. The age, history, and survival of the iconic portrait, make it even more meaningful today.

How to Remove Skunk Smells-Opinion
From a post on Facebook
________________________________
The best way we’ve found to remove the smell of skunk is:
1 bottle hydrogen peroxide,
1 tablespoon dish soap
1/4 cup baking soda
Sponge
Put first two in bowl, have the stinky one ready in sink and just before you sponge the mixture on add baking soda. Be VERY careful not to get it in nose or eyes. Massage through hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing. Use your regular soap, rinse, dry. You literally can let them sleep on your bed after with no issues.
