As Heather Burns completed her time as Director of Education & Programming with the College last week, College Directors past and present and the Canadian Heritage Arts Society Board wanted to share their well-wishes below.
For the last ten years, Heather Burns has faithfully served CCPA in many capacities. As the College’s Director of Education & Programming for 4 years, she has been a constant collaborator and advisor to me personally and has demonstrated unwavering support for the ’team’ we have built. Her commitment to community and advocating for artists ensured a steady stream of industry professionals wanting to engage with the College. Her collegial commitment to support and honour the faculty was only outmatched by her commitment to the students.
The students saw in her someone they could confide in, someone who understood them, who always treated them with the utmost respect and put their experience first always. She set an example for all of us for both work ethic and commitment to craft, by regularly continuing her work as an exemplary musician and director in addition to her full time commitments. She has served CCPA as a leader, teacher, mentor, musician, Music Director, advocate, artist, colleague, friend, confidante, and always impressed everyone with her sense of humour, style, and fashion. We wish her the very best on her professional journey. She will be missed but we eagerly await what she’ll accomplish next.
- Caleb Marshall, Managing Artistic Director

As founders of the Canadian College of Performing Arts, we know intimately the complexities and enormous challenges of administrating this multi-disciplinary institution. The college prides itself on its inclusiveness, diversity of training and high standards. Over the past 10 years in CCPA’s administration and more recently as Director of Education and Programming, Heather has been a dedicated leader, and partner, to ensure growth and future opportunities for the very talented and hard working students.
We are most grateful to Heather for her role in supporting the mission of the college and her dedication to the well-being and nurturing of the students. She has been an invaluable colleague to the staff, faculty and board of directors. We wish her continued success as she embarks on the next chapter of her life and artistic pursuits.
With sincere appreciation,
- Janis Dunning and Jacques Lemay, Co-founders

Over the past ten years, Heather has helped hundreds of students to become more accomplished artists, more confident performers, and more compassionate citizens of the world.
As a strong advocate for students and their well-being, Heather has led faculty members in maintaining a healthy, safe, learning environment, in which students have been able to flourish. Heather has always modeled the core values that the College holds dear: collaboration, artistic excellence, creativity, and a formidable work ethic.
We offer our most sincere thanks to Heather for her longstanding commitment to the College and we wish her joy and fulfillment in all her future endeavours.
- Barbara Greeniaus, Chair of the Board, Canadian Heritage Arts Society
