January 7, 2022
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This past week saw momentous changes within our City government. Mayor Eric Adams was sworn in as the 110th Mayor of New York, Council Member Adrienne Adams was elected as the first Black City Council Speaker, and our new City Council is now represented by a majority of women elected officials - yet another New York first.

During my tenure as a public servant, I have come to know the Mayor and the Council Speaker well, and I believe that they are both true fighters on behalf of the people. I am also proud that they both hail from the great Borough of Queens, representing the values of safety, equity, and progress that we all hold dear.

I look forward to working with our new City government to safeguard the people of this County.

As we continue to overcome the challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, my Office will engage partners across all aisles to carry out the mission of Brave Justice - one that is focused on ensuring public safety while treating every defendant fairly and with thoughtful consideration of the just outcome.
In Friendship,

Melinda Katz
Queens District Attorney
In The Courts
  • Queens woman charged with killing a man in September 2021 following extradition from New Mexico
  • Two men charged with murder in stabbing death of a man in Hollis, Queens; one of the defendants also charged with second murder two days later
Reflecting On Our Progress
Even as COVID-19 continues to disrupt criminal justice operations, this Office has stayed true to the goal of keeping the people of Queens safe while working to ensure a more equitable system.

I had an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of this Office in an op-ed for the Queens Daily Eagle.
