Success
Why do we go to work? The reasons are many. We work to earn a salary, and that salary pays for a place to live, a car in the driveway, food on the table, clothes on our backs, a little entertainment, and the needs of the people who depend on us. We work to provide a product or service that customers need. We work to be challenged, to gain new knowledge and skills, and to strengthen specific behavioral competencies. We work to be part of a team, to socialize, and to make new friends. We work to be recognized and to succeed. Each of us could add several more reasons to the list.
Are these experiences and outcomes guaranteed? No. Nothing about work is guaranteed. But when we take accountability for what we want from our work, the odds shift in our favor. The salary, the success, the food on the table, and the roof overhead all become more likely when we own our results instead of waiting for them. Self-accountability, joined with a clear sense of our purpose at work and in life, is the foundation on which success is built.
So, begin now. Each morning, when your feet touch the floor, be thankful that you are alive. Then practice one act of self-awareness before you leave the house: name the outcome you will own today, and name the one behavior that most often gets in your way. Look forward to making a difference at work and to caring for the people around you. Now go and have your coffee, tea, orange juice, or milk. You have earned it.
Keep In Touch.
