Superintendent's Weekly Message

It has been wonderful to see all the smiling faces back on our campuses this week! Thank you for your patience as we adjusted our arrival and dismissal procedures to best accommodate our schools’ configuration and ensure student safety. We hope that walking our youngest View students to class helped ease some of the uncertainty during these first few days.

I am incredibly proud of the work our teachers and administrators have done to prepare our classrooms and schools for the year ahead. Last week, our K-8 teachers dedicated Monday and Tuesday to full-day professional development, focusing on the “why” behind our new English Language Arts curriculum adoption and exploring best practices for implementation. Their commitment to learning and growing ensures that our students receive the very best educational experience.

We are off to a strong start, and I am grateful for the partnership of our staff and families as we begin this new school year together.

Warmly,

Dr. Susan Wildes

Superintendent of Schools, Hermosa Beach City School District

Hermosa View School Principal News

Wow! What a great start to the school year! The excitement on the first day was truly palpable, and I have loved seeing our students embrace new routines with such enthusiasm.

It was wonderful welcoming families onto campus last week to help students learn their routes to class. Beginning this week, we kindly ask that families say their goodbyes at the gate, allowing students to head to class with guidance from our amazing team. This week also marks the first week when our TK students will begin their full-day schedule. Please take a moment to review our Hermosa View School Drop-Off / Pick-Up Guidelines 2025-2026 for details.

Save the Date:

Our Hermosa View Minimum Day and Back-to-School Night for Kindergarten and 1st Grade will be held on Tuesday, September 2, from 5:00-6:30 PM. This event is for parents and guardians only. As a special note for TK families, although you have already attended your Back-to-School Night, TK students will also follow the minimum day on this date. Please refer to our Hermosa Schools Bell Schedules.

Additionally, Hermosa View and HB Preschool Picture Day will be on September 9, 2025. More details will be shared soon.

I’m looking forward to our first full week together. Thank you for helping make our first few days a huge success.

Warmly,

Dr. Jessica Ghobrial, Hermosa View Principal / HB Preschool Director

Hermosa Vista School Principal News

We had a great first week of school! Students are excited to learn in their classrooms and to reconnect with their friends. Thank you for getting your children to school on time and ready to learn. For Vista families using the front valet line, please remember to drop off your child after passing the ramp so the flow of cars moves quickly, safely, and efficiently.

When dropping off your child in the morning, please remember that students may arrive 10 minutes before the start of school. Start times are as follows: 4th grade at 8:10 AM, 3rd grade at 8:20 AM, and 2nd grade at 8:30 AM. If you arrive earlier than your child’s designated time, we ask that your child wait outside until their scheduled arrival window.

This week will be our first five-day week. On Wednesday, August 27, it’s an early out day, where all students will be dismissed early due to staff meetings and team collaboration. Then, on Thursday, August 28, Hermosa Vista will have a Minimum Day and host our Back-to-School Night for 2nd-4th Grade, from 5:00-6:30 PM. Early dismissal times will be: 2nd Grade at 12:20 PM, 3rd Grade at 12:10 PM, and 4th Grade at 12:15 PM.

The Hermosa Vista Back-to-School Night is a special evening for parents and guardians only. The schedule will be as follows:

  • 5:00-5:30 PM: 2nd Grade families visit classrooms
  • 5:30-6:00 PM: Principal Message to All Grades
  • 6:00-6:30 PM: 3rd and 4th Grade families visit classrooms

I’m excited about the learning and growth ahead and look forward to seeing you at Back-to-School Night.

Warmly,

Grace Yang, Hermosa Vista School Principal

Hermosa Valley School Principal News

Last week marked the best start to school I’ve experienced in the past five years! The energy on campus, the excitement from students, and the way so many kids welcomed others into their groups in such an inclusive way were inspiring. I’d particularly like to shout out our 8th graders, who have clearly come ready to be exceptional leaders this year. Thank you for helping us set the tone for a successful 2025-26 school year.

Our Protocol for Participation is a key guide for eligibility in many middle school activities, both on and off campus. It outlines expectations for service points, citizenship, tardiness, and behavior. This ensures that students can participate in School Dances, Spirit Games, Outdoor Ed Camps, 8th Grade Disneyland, and 8th Grade Promotion activities. Please review the guide with your student so they are ready to participate fully.

Valley Picture Day will take place this Friday, August 28. Orders can be placed online at mydorian.com before picture day and up to four days afterward. Smile bright! Picture day photos will be in the yearbook.

E-Bike & E-Scooter Safety Course with E-Bike Sense will be offered on Wednesday, August 27 (2-4 PM) and Wednesday, January 7 (2-4 PM). Please review THIS LINK to sign up to register.

Middle School Outdoor Science Education Camp opportunities are available for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Please review this information sheet for details.

A special thank you to HVPTO for their generous $15,000 contribution toward athletic transportation, helping ensure our teams can travel safely to competitions this year. We appreciate HVPTO's support of our HVS Athletics Program.

I am grateful for your continued support and so encouraged by the positive energy on campus. I look forward to all that this year has in store for our students and school community.

Warmly,

Jessica Bledsoe, Hermosa Valley School Principal
