Good Morning Folks,
As the only Southern California region chartered member and representative of the National Association of Home Builders, Desert Valleys Builders Association is in Orlando, Florida, for the annual International Builders’ Show and Leadership Meetings. This event fills the Orange County Convention Center and hotels into the surrounding counties.
Staff are participating in training to expand our local services and identify grant funding opportunities. Our greatest influence has always been, and continues to be, our involvement in governmental affairs. The National Association of Home Builders serves as our voice on the national and federal stage.
DVBA is also committed to expanding our long-standing focus on education within the construction industry. We continue to share with local youth the opportunities and career paths available in the vocational trades. We hope to bring back additional resources, including expanded promotion of the Professional Women in Building Council, the Sales and Marketing Council, and other programs. There is much to absorb in just a few days. Our committees will be the place where members can help shape our priorities and determine how we implement what we learn.
Palm Springs Air Museum
The Coachella Valley is fortunate to have the award-winning Palm Springs Air Museum, home to military aircraft and important historical exhibits. The museum is open to the public seven days a week for a reasonable admission fee.
What many may not know is that the museum provides educational opportunities for youth throughout the year, including outreach into the high desert. Hundreds of students are transported at the museum’s expense to learn about history, the evolution of flight, and the mathematics and engineering behind these achievements.
These programs are made possible through generous community support. Donors are recognized throughout the museum on hangars, photographs, and placards. One of the museum’s primary fundraisers, designed to honor heroes of design, flight, and military achievement, is the annual Gala. The event is open to the public. Consider adding it to next year’s calendar.
