Pink 13.1: A Small but Mighty Group

Saturday, October 23rd was an absolutely beautiful day in Abingdon, Virginia! We had 25 participants join us on the Virginia Creeper Trail to walk, bike, and run 13.1 miles as part of the Inaugural Pink 13.1! We had another seven participate virtually from Christiansburg, Harrisonburg, and even the beach. The Inaugural Pink 13.1 was sponsored by Bone Fire Smokehouse, First Bank & Trust, Food City, and RunAbout Sports Roanoke.

Together, we raised over $40,000 and the proceeds will support a screening and diagnostic service fund to support breast cancer testing for uninsured and underinsured in Southwest Virginia.
Breast Cancer Anxiety Study
IntelliCare is an interactive, smartphone app program designed to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. It has been shown in numerous studies to improve mental health. However, we don't currently know if IntelliCare can improve mental health in patients and survivors of cancer. The purpose of this study is to find out if IntelliCare is an effective way to treat depression and anxiety symptoms in women diagnosed with breast cancer.

The phone apps are designed to be intuitive and easy to use. Technical support is provided throughout the study. Participants will use an assigned app program for eight weeks, and complete online surveys four different times during a 12 month period. Participants receive free access to the apps and up to $200 in gift cards for completing study surveys. There are no required visits to a clinic or a doctor’s office.
