Volume 20 | JULY 2021
Need To Talk? New Peer Support Group
Physical distancing can contribute to feelings of isolation and loneliness. This is true for caregivers and for the person they support. If you would like to connect with another caregiver, the OCO has added another group on Wednesdays at 2 p.m.

Discussion will be driven by caregivers, and facilitated by an OCO staff member. Caregivers providing care to any family member, partner, friend or neighbour, for any type of health condition or mental health concern, can join the group. All discussions are completely confidential.

Connect with other caregivers like you.

July 29: Caregiver Resilience

Uncertainty and stress are a common experiences for caregivers. As caregivers, our physical, emotional, and mental health are heavily taxed in our daily lives, particularly at this time. Building resilience helps caregivers sustain their health and capacity to care, both for themselves and others. In this webinar, we will learn about the five core traits for resiliency and stress systems management. Dr. Robyne will help us understand why common knowledge does not equal common practice, and how to fix this cycle to apply what we learn about resilience.

*This presentation will be in English and available as a recording after the event.
Aug 19: Caregivers and Puppets: The Perfect Pair

Puppetry can be a playful and creative tool for some caregivers. It helps us look at things differently and encourage social interaction. Through puppet-making activities, we explore ways to build rewarding intergenerational connections.

In this webinar, we will demonstrate how puppetry and storytelling can help caregivers:
  • Explain the caregiver role to young children, why it’s important, and changes in family dynamics when someone needs special care
  • Interact in a joyful and engaging way with the person they are caring for, especially those who are living with dementia

*This presentation will be in English and available as a recording after the event.
