Summer is so close you can almost touch it!

GETTING READY FOR ANOTHER GREAT SUMMER!

The wait is almost over! We are one month out from the start of another outstanding summer on Stony Lake and Juniper Island.

To help you plan ahead and get into a Stony state of mind, read on for some timely updates...

LATEST ON LOVESICK LAKE: MEETING ON JUNE 17

Important update from our friends at the ASLC:

"Earlier this year we reached out to you with an update on the proposed expansion of the Lovesick Lake Trailer Park...

Peterborough County and the Township of Selwyn have announced a public meeting to discuss an Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-Law Amendment. It is crucial for the community to step up and voice our concerns now about the impact of overdevelopment on our lake ecosystem.

If you are able to attend either in person or virtually, details can be found here and below:

• Date: Monday, June 17, 2024
• Time: 5:00pm
• Location: Council Chambers, Township of Selwyn, 1310 Centre Line, Selwyn, Ontario
• Virtual: The meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube. If you would like to participate/speak, email the clerk for a Zoom link no later than 9:00am on June 17

The ASLC shares the position of our neighbours at the Lovesick Lake Association that the proposed expansion of the existing trailer park presents serious environmental concerns that have not yet been adequately studied.

By showing up in person or virtually to this meeting, you will help demonstrate our collective commitment to minimizing environmental impact and promoting the sustainability of the Trent-Severn Waterway."

RACQUETS UPDATE

Thank you for your support and enthusiasm for our revamped Racquets programming line-up for adults and juniors of all levels! We can't wait to get on the courts with you and our new Head Tennis Pro, Claudia Voicu.

In the meantime, we've still got plenty of exciting sessions you can book now to secure your spot on the court this summer, including:

• Adult clinics such as Let's Get Playing, Intro to Doubles Strategy and Singles Strategy 3.5+.
• Adult tournaments, which now include A and B draws for the Women’s and Men’s Club Championships.
• All levels of Junior clinics, which are available for registration to half capacity. The other half of the clinics will be available for sign-up a week in advance.
• Junior tournaments, boys and girls, U16, U14 and U12.
• Pickleball! We've got round robins, drop-in pickleball and clinics with a visiting pro.

JUNIOR SAILING UPDATE

Our Junior Sailing program is in full swing with 16 instructors ready to create an incredible summer of fun, games, laughter and plenty of sailing excitement on the water!

Our program starts on Monday, July 1, and our Head Instructor, Sydney Rankin, will be sending an email to all parents shortly to provide details on what to expect on the first day/first week, what to bring and how your sailors can make the most of their summer at SLYC.

We still have some spots available for sailors in morning and afternoon classes in August, so please register now and we’ll see you on the lake.

And please remember that we’ll be having weekend racing every Saturday and Sunday again this summer. Races are open to sailors of all skills and abilities — and parents are even allowed to sail with their kids if you’re brave enough to try!
