Contract Fundamentals Part 2: 10 Key Provisions In Owner Architect Agreements
While architects prefer to focus on design, a critical component of any practice is the project contract, as it lays the groundwork for the project and the owner/architect relationship. In this seminar, we will focus on the reasons why a strong owner/architect agreement is necessary, recommendations as to the format of the contract, and developing a basic understanding of the key provisions in owner/architect contracts.

Emergency Escape and Rescue Openings - Ladder Pads by Jonathan Clark
I wanted to pick up on something that Kerwin brought up in his last article with his footnote relating to access to emergency escape and rescue openings (EEROs). About ten years ago or so we started getting comments back from different fire agencies about the need for “ladder pads”. So if you haven’t had any experience with providing access to EEROs this article is intended to at least make you aware of what has been taking hold in the Bay Area over the last ten years or so.

Bay Area Computational/Virtual Architecture Critique Group
Delta_Ark Studios (Ari Kalinowski) is running a critique group for computational, virtual and robotic architecture. If you're interested in grasshopper, architecture for game worlds or VR, complex systems and/or robotics, please take a look at their meetup page and apply! They are trying to keep the group small and relatively intimate. They'll start online, and then slowly move to in-person; so, it's preferable if you're within a stone's throw of Oakland. Their first critique is Monday March 28th, but they will be meeting weekly or every two weeks after that.

ABI August 2022: Billings continue to grow at architecture firms
Business conditions remained generally strong at architecture firms in August. The Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score for the month ticked back up to 53.3 from 51.0 in July, as more firms reported an increase in billings. Inquiries into new projects also increased modestly in August from July, while the value of new design contracts held steady at the same rate of growth it has been at for the last two months. Many firms are still struggling to find enough employees to meet the amount of work they have coming in.
