Art Studio Addition
Chappaqua, NY
Architect: KG+D
| This 1,570-square-foot structural addition to the existing house was designed as a spacious art studio. The open floor plan features abundant natural light, a basement, and a vaulted wood and steel-framed roof supported by bent flitch beams at the ridge. Additionally, the roof ridge has been designed to support a 2,000-pound hoist for moving heavy works of art around the studio. The first-floor framing rests on conventional concrete spread footings. Lateral stability is achieved through a combination of wood- and gypsum-sheathed shear walls. | | | |
