🏢 Opportunity to Comment on Updates to LEED V4 🏢

Proposed changes to LEED on energy performance and emissions reductions, and a new greenhouse gas emissions metric are being considered. Energy efficiency can now be measured using energy cost or source energy metrics, reducing some barriers to facilitating electrification. The next version of the LEED rating system will enter the development phase in January 2023. Learn more here. Public comment period is now open through Jan. 13, 2023.

Highlights of the updates:

Impacted credits/prerequisites in BD+C (Including Multifamily) and ID+C:
In both the credit and the prerequisite, the thresholds have been raised to encourage greater performance.
With this update, projects will demonstrate improvement calculated according to ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1–2010 using an energy efficiency metric (source energy or energy cost) and a greenhouse gas emissions metric. Additional pathways exist for projects using newer versions of ASHRAE 90.1.

After the first public comment period, the LEED Steering Committee will review the comments and determine if any changes are needed to the proposed language, and a second public comment period may be opened.

NYS Releases Climate Action Scoping Plan

After two years of work and input from 7 sector specific advisory groups, the NY State Climate Action Council has released its Scoping Plan. The Scoping Plan is the framework for how New York will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero emissions, increase renewable energy use, and ensure all communities equitably benefit in the clean energy transition.
