Please note, this legislative update does not impact self-insured plans.
To our employee benefits clients, we wanted to make you aware of a new bill that was passed by the Illinois House & Senate and is expected to soon be signed by Governor Pritzker.
In short, we see 4 significant changes that all need further clarification from the state, but for now we want to make you aware of the changes set to take effect 1/1/26. We will be talking a lot about this over the next 18 months, as it will impact all fully-insured group health policies in Illinois.
- No more step therapy for drugs, or significantly reduced
- No more prior authorization for in-patient mental health care
- No more short-term medical plans
- New power to the state to regulate increases on fully-insured large group plans
We will schedule an educational webinar and send you the invitation once the bill has been signed and more details are available.
Sincerely,
Your Employee Benefits Team at
