MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

The Ossining Recreation and Parks Department frightened our visitors this past Friday with the first annual Haunted Kill Trail of Terror on the Sing Sing Kill Greenway!

The first annual Haunted Kill was, by all measures, a wonderful success. Thank you to the Placemaking Committee, the Recreation Department, and WCT for this spectacular event that brought the best of Hudson Valley Halloween spookiness and history together in the most unique setting imaginable.

Something this seamless could not have happened without a lot of hard work, so here's a big shout-out to all the volunteers and Village staff for the many hours spent staging, rehearsing, and organizing for this magnificent evening.

Good news! The Recreation and Parks Department will be hosting some less spooky experiences in the coming weeks for our younger community, including the Pumpkin Patch & Hayride at Nelson Park, Howl-O-Ween Pet Parade at the waterfront, and last but not least – our annual Trunk of Treat in Market Square that will feature an opportunity for folks to Meet the Fleet.

Westchester County has launched a Recycle Coach Mobile App that will replace the Village of Ossining’s RecycleRight app beginning on November 4th. This free app was designed to help make recycling and solid waste information more accessible to County residents.

Like our prior app, the Recycle Coach Mobile App links to the Village of Ossining’s municipal collection schedules and will provide information on service disruptions. Recycle Coach app also connects residents with the correct local recycling and disposal information, optional recycling event alerts, educational tools, and the tools to make purchasing decisions to reduce their waste footprint. By using the app, residents can make more informed recycling and purchasing decisions, which in turn, can significantly reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. This will help residents recycle and allow for more informed purchasing decisions.

Recycle Coach is designed for your convenience. It's accessible for free from your desktop computers and mobile devices, and can be easily downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.

Property Owners Advised to Put Safety First and Utilize Assistance Program Opportunities.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today advised property owners to prioritize safety when preparing for home heating needs this fall and winter. DEC reminded property owners that connecting occupied buildings to wells producing natural gas is dangerous and potentially deadly. DEC also encouraged property owners to inspect fuel storage tanks for potential leaks or spills prior to receiving shipments of fuel oil for the upcoming heating season. In addition, DEC urged residents to take steps now to utilize programs designed to save consumers energy and money.
