“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.”

Student Spotlight

Josh enrolled at the Literacy Council in August 2019 and has made progress with reading, math, and writing tutors. Working in fitness was his “dream job.” With hard work, and the support of his tutors, Josh recently became a Wellness Coach at the YMCA.

“As part of my job… I have started teaching my first class, a wellness orientation for people with disabilities,” he said. “We tour the weight room, and I show them how to use the equipment. Each week I switch up the workout for that day.”

Josh plans to start Cape Fear Community College’s Health and Fitness Science associate degree program, and his volunteer tutors will remain on call to help him.

Congratulations, Josh!
