MHO Announces Financial Close for Lakeshore Villas

The need for affordable housing has never been greater since our communities were devastated by Hurricane Helene. Fortunately, on Thursday, September 26, MHO finalized the financing for Lakeshore Villas, a 120-unit affordable housing community in Arden, North Carolina. A commemorative groundbreaking ceremony will be held on November 18, 2024, at the Lakeshore Villas development site.

“We now see the Lakeshore development is more crucial than ever in supporting housing stabilization in the region and restoring hope for our communities.”

-Charlie Owen, Board Chair, MHO

Construction is slated to begin as soon as possible but may be delayed due to recovery efforts facing the region. Lakeshore Villas is tentatively slated to open in the winter of 2026.

MHO Welcomes Two New Staff Members

A few weeks before Hurricane Helene hit Asheville, MHO welcomed two new staff members, and we couldn’t be prouder to have them on our team. When the disaster struck, Larry jumped to action, conducting welfare checks on numerous MHO EHR clients, as well as checking on his own family and friends. Meanwhile, Chris teamed up with Adeline and Rich from the Rental Investment team to assess our rental properties and helped coordinate the delivery of supplies and water, alongside the MHO team. We are incredibly grateful to our entire MHO staff for their response and dedication in helping our communities recover.

Larry Jones joins us as the new Home Repair Specialist for our Essential Home Repair team. He is responsible for working directly with clients, contractors, care managers, and funders to improve housing conditions by providing essential home repairs. He has been in the area for over 30 years, first coming from the coast of SC for mountain biking and local music. He lives in the apple orchards of Hendersonville with his wife and fur babies and is excited about new adventures with MHO! Larry brings over 30 years of home repair experience.

Chris Zajac joins us as a new Real Estate Developer for our Community Rental Investment team. He is responsible for creating new LIHTC housing community developments, which aim to provide much-needed affordable housing stock for our WNC community. He has a BS in Industrial Design from Georgia Tech and brings a wealth of experience in design, project, and asset management for private sector side commercial and retail development. He relocated to WNC in 2020 to be closer to family and has actively contributed to several community organizations' efforts to address community needs, particularly housing and food insecurity.
