"We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing."— George Bernard Shaw

Dear Student,

Fall is a season of change. The long days of summer give way to structure, and with it, many of us notice the ways our bodies carry the weight of time: stiff shoulders, restless sleep, or movement that feels less free than it once did.

Challenging times can amplify all this.

In moments like these, practice becomes more than exercise. It can be both a sanctuary and a springboard — an enjoyable, even fun place to steady yourself, release what’s built up, and move forward with renewed clarity and strength. Over the years, it has grown more apparent to me that when we meet practice in this way, it adapts with us through changing bodies, minds, and stages of life.

The crucial lesson we return to is that these changes are not signs to give up. They are invitations to care for ourselves in a new way.

Motion is the Potion: Moving Well at Any Age

It may sound like a pithy cliché, but behind it lies a real key to healing and to feeling better in body, mind, and spirit.

Indeed, movement is good for us. But as the years add up, so can the aches and pains. They creep in slowly, making us wonder if moving less might be the safer choice.

Or we go to the gym, pick up some weights, or head out for a jog and think, “Well, that must be the motion I need.” And sometimes it helps. But just as often ...read on...

The Not-So-Secret Path to a Better Body and Healthy Living

“Don’t just do something, do what’s best for you.”

It's easy to believe the answer to aches and pains is to do less, to pull back, avoid what feels difficult, and accept stiffness or limitation as part of getting older. But where's the fun in that?

The way back to freedom and vitality comes not from doing less, but from moving differently. So many of us stop before we even start, or get derailed by obstacles that arise. We don't realize the spark we're looking for often returns when movement begins to feel good again. Once you rediscover that, it's no longer another task to endure; it's something to enjoy.

It often comes down to how we respond to the build-up of stress, tension, and old habits, along with the symptoms that flare up as a result. Much of what we call aging is really the accumulation of habits and strain that can be unwound.

Here's the not-so-secret part: the right kind of motion, grounded in somatic awareness and how your body truly works, becomes your potion for living your best life at any age.

Our approach to yoga and mindful movement is built around this idea, helping you enjoy a stronger body, a calmer mind, and the confidence to reclaim what you thought was gone. Step by step, the path forward can be simpler than expected, even enjoyable, sometimes downright fun.

Saturday Posture and Somatic Movement Class

"The human body is not an instrument to be used, but a realm of one’s being to be experienced, explored, and enriched." —

Thomas Hanna

For many people, the hardest part of getting older is not just the stiffness or discomfort itself, but the loss of confidence that comes with it. When balance feels less steady or movement less free, even daily activities can begin to feel uncertain.

Remarkably, the way back is often simpler and more gratifying than we imagine.

Our Saturday 9:30 am Posture-Based Yoga and Somatic Movement Class is designed to help you understand and resolve the roots of pain and movement problems and to restore steadiness and confidence without strain. Instead of pushing harder, we use guided movement that helps the nervous system relearn healthier patterns and the body realign itself more naturally.

Over time, students often notice freer breathing, steadier balance, and the return of abilities they once thought were gone. Walking comfortably, lifting with ease, or enjoying daily life with friends and family again are just a few of the outcomes that can be achieved.

This class has been a trusted space for over 15 years, helping many return to and enjoy the activities and lifestyles they value most.

Classes are ongoing, and you are welcome to join us at any time.

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” — Helen Keller

As this season unfolds, I’m reminded that commitment doesn’t have to mean willpower alone. It grows when we share the work, when we show up together, and when the presence of a supportive community steadies us. "Community over willpower" is another pithy but powerful idea to guide us here.

Your presence matters in unseen and unspoken ways. It nurtures your own growth, helping you build the habits of health and happiness this work makes possible. Your energy and experience become a quiet beacon for others in their moments of challenge and doubt.

Whether it’s through our classes or the community you build in your own way, may you find the support and steadiness to stay connected to what truly matters amidst the din of your busy life.

I hope to see you soon along the way.

Namaste,

Alan
