NATIONAL PUMPKIN DAY
National Pumpkin Day recognizes a favored autumn decoration and food on October 26th. Not only do they make great fall decorations, but the pumpkin also completes a variety of tasty recipes. Join a pumpkin competition or visit any of the many fall festivals featuring the beautiful gourds.
By October 26th, we're in a frenzy of pumpkin obsession. We cannot wait for the big November holiday for pumpkin pie. No siree, we need pumpkin everything! Bars, cookies, coffee, cheesecake, pasta, and oatmeal. Pumpkin Chunkin', pumpkin patches, festivals, bake-offs, and television specials. Let's not forget jack-o-lantern carving, too! This fruit grabs Americans' attention.
As it should! This squash is native to North America. The oldest evidence of pumpkin-related seeds dates back to somewhere between 7000 and 5500 BC to seeds found in Mexico.
The word pumpkin originates from the word pepon, which means "large melon" in Greek.
Within recent years, white pumpkins have become more popular in the United States. The United States produces 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins, with Illinois producing more than any other state.
In 2021, Italian Stefano Cutrupi claimed the title of the world's largest pumpkin when his gargantuan gourd weighed in at 2703 pounds (1,226 kg). That's 300 pounds heavier than the 2014 winner from Switzerland. In 2020, Travis Gienger grew the largest pumpkin in North America. The hefty vegetable weighed in at 2,350 pounds. It eeked out the previous winner, a 2,145-pound pumpkin from Streator, Illinois grown by Gene McMullen.
Pumpkins are packed with nutrients, but they're not only good for humans. Did you know that pumpkin may be recommended by veterinarians as a dietary supplement for dogs and cats? Since pumpkin is easy to digest, if your pet is experiencing certain digestive ailments, don't be surprised if your vet says to give them pumpkin puree. Poultry also benefits from eating raw pumpkin as a supplement to their regular feed during the winter months to help maintain egg production. As a seasonal food, it sure comes at the right time of year. Since it's packed with vitamin C, it can boost your immune system to fight off those nasty colds, too.

MacArthur Returns to the Philippines
by Bradley Hart, PhD
General Douglas MacArthur's 1944 landing on the island of Leyte did not mark the end of the battle for the Philippines, but instead the beginning of one of the most hard-fought and brutal campaigns in the deadly final months of the war in the Pacific.

City Park, Sunday Farmers Market in New OrleansOctober 27, 2024
8 am - 12 pm
New Orleans City Park
Tad Gormley Stadium
Marconi Drive @ Navarre Ave.
Directions and Parking
The Sunday Market is located in the parking lot of Tad Gormley Stadium at the corner of Marconi and Navarre. While the parking lot is closed off to house the market, there is plenty of parking along Marconi and surrounding streets. Please be diligent about following parking signs and only park in clearly marked spaces with perpendicular markings. DO NOT park in the bike lanes, as this makes our market space unsafe to bikers and pedestrians and threatens our ability to continue operating the market here. No parking allowed on the neutral ground. Please don't pull up into the market driveway for recycling pick ups or drop offs. Thank you for understanding!
RTA Bus Route 27: Louisiana passes right by market! Click here to view more details about route 27.
No Cash? No Problem!
All of our vendors accept cash and tokens. Swipe for tokens on-site at the orange Welcome Tent with debit, credit, or EBT SNAP.
Shop with SNAP!
Market Umbrella implements fresh food incentive programs such as Market Match, which doubles SNAP dollars spent at market for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables. Starting January 1st, 2023, market match will be unlimited, allowing us to match each EBT dollar being swiped for on-site at the orange Welcome Tent.
Between June and the end of November, certified market vendors accept Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers for both seniors and WIC participants. Market Umbrella is able to double FMNP benefits with tokens on-site at the Welcome Tent.

Johnette Downing - Petit Pierre and His Wild Adventure
Join us for a special story time reading and signing with children's picture book author and musician Johnette Downing as we celebrate the release of her new book, Petit Pierre and His Wild Adventure.
Petit Pierre has made a home for himself on the coast where Louisiana meets Mississippi, and now it is time for him to learn how to plunge-dive. Brown pelicans typically pick up this behavior by watching others do it. Will a potential love interest help Pierre learn how to dive? Young readers will follow his progress and, along the way, find out more about Gulf of Mexico marine life.
“As any nature-lover knows, watching brown pelicans plunge dive is one of the Gulf Coast’s most majestic sights. Joining Pierre as he learns this skill, step-by-step, page-by-page, is inspirational, exciting, and, just like in nature, a joy to behold.” — Rien Fertel, author of Brown Pelican
Johnette Downing is a multi-award winning musician and author who serves up a gumbo of Louisiana roots music and books in a toe-tapping, two-stepping good time for children across the globe. In addition to working with children, she presents keynotes and workshops for educators globally. Dedicated to celebrating childhood, nurturing cultural exchanges, and fostering literacy through her music and books, Downing has performed in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe, Central America, North America and the Caribbean. Her presentations speak to a child’s interests in an engaging, interactive, thought-provoking, educational, entertaining and culturally respectful way; earning her a reputation for being the “Musical Ambassador to Children” and the “Pied Piper of Louisiana Music Traditions.”

Zombie Paintball Returns to NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale
07:00 October 04, 2024
By: Charles Andre Blanchard
Celebrate the Spooky Season
Beginning October 10 and extending until November 2, attendees to Zombie Paintball can celebrate the Halloween season with a monstrous bang (and potentially satisfy their need for speed).
Festivities
This popular seasonal activity once again returns to the premier racing facility in Avondale, this time with an enhanced festival area and zombie-hunting scenes, courtesy of their new partnership with Mardi Gras Productions. The 20-minute experience includes a bus ride to designated target stations, where riders will test their accuracy and try to defeat all the zombie enemies. They are also given a chance to reload their guns and go back through the stations before finishing.
Guests can also explore nearby festivities to celebrate the Halloween season. Food trucks will be present, along with stations for pumpkin carving and face painting. Local craft vendors and more themed-attractions make this a great family-friendly stop this Halloween. For the adults, drink specials will also be offered on several days.
NOTE: The only targets are the zombies. Attendees will not be harmed or shot at. However, children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Pricing & Packages
General admission begins at $22 per person and includes a rental paintball gun and 150 rounds of ammo.
For $45, Guests can purchase the Zombie Paintball + Karting package, which includes the aforementioned rental gun and ammo but also an added go-kart session on the NOLA Motorsports track.
Have a large group? NOLA Motorsports also offers a $650 party package. With this, up to 28 people can skip the line and each receive a commemorative bandana before boarding a private bus and being given the accompanying rental guns and ammo.
For tickets, visit the NOLA Motorsports Park's box office or their website.
Hours & Dates of Operation
The attraction will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the following days:
- Oct. 24 - 27
- Oct. 30 - Nov. 2

benign
/bɪˈnaɪn/
Definition: Gentle and kindly; not harmful or detrimental.
Origin: From the Latin word "benignus," meaning "kind" or "good."
Example: The doctor assured her that the tumor was benign and posed no threat to her health.
"Harmless" is the essence of what "benign" signifies. When something is described as benign, it implies that it is not only gentle but also free from danger or risk. For instance, a benign tumor, while it may need monitoring, does not invade surrounding tissues or spread to other parts of the body. In a broader context, the term can apply to actions or behaviors that are non-threatening or beneficial, such as a benign smile or a benign policy initiative. Thus, "benign" embodies a reassuring quality of safety and kindness in various contexts.benign

NATIONAL CHICKEN FRIED STEAK DAY
National Chicken Fried Steak Day is celebrated on October 26th every year and dedicated to one of the most beloved comfort foods in the Southern U.S known as chicken fried steak.
Chicken fried steak is a dish made from beef that has been tenderized, breaded, and then deep-fried. It is often served with a creamy gravy and mashed potatoes.
Chicken fried steak can be traced back to the late 19th century, and it is believed to have been influenced by German and Austrian immigrants who brought recipes for Wiener schnitzel to the U.S.
Today, chicken fried steak is a popular dish throughout the South, but it is especially beloved in Texas. The combination of crispy breading, juicy beef, and creamy gravy is simply irresistible. It's the classic comfort food that many people associate with happy childhood memories. In fact, it can be served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
The crispy breading and creamy gravy are a perfect combination to indulge in when eating chicken fried steak. Plus, chicken fried steak is a relatively easy dish to make, even for novice cooks making it an extremely versatile dish. This delicious comfort food can be served with a variety of sides, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread.

The Most Misunderstood Words and How They’re Changing Communication
The Evolution of Language and Misunderstandings
Language is a living, breathing entity that evolves with society. Words can develop new meanings, shift in usage, or even fall out of favor entirely. As we navigate through an increasingly connected world, the nuances of language often lead to misunderstandings. Certain words that once had specific meanings are now frequently misinterpreted, leading to confusion in communication. This evolution can create barriers or bridges in understanding, depending on how we choose to navigate it.
The Impact of Technology on Communication
The rise of technology and social media has revolutionized the way we communicate, but it has also introduced a new layer of complexity. With platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, brevity is key. This has led to the emergence of abbreviations, slang, and memes that are often misunderstood by those who are not part of a specific digital culture. For instance, the word "lit" has transitioned from describing something that is physically illuminated to meaning something exciting or excellent. This rapid shift can alienate those who are not familiar with contemporary vernacular, highlighting the importance of context in communication.
Commonly Misunderstood Words
Many words have taken on meanings that can lead to significant misunderstandings. Here are a few examples:
- Literally: Traditionally used to indicate something that is true in a strict sense, "literally" is now often used for emphasis, even when the statement isn’t factual. For example, someone might say, "I was literally dying of laughter." This usage can confuse listeners who expect a straightforward interpretation.
- Awesome: Originally used to describe something that inspires awe, "awesome" has become a catch-all term for anything that is considered good or impressive. This shift dilutes the original meaning and can lead people to overlook the true depth of something that is genuinely awe-inspiring.
- Sick: In its traditional sense, "sick" refers to illness. However, among younger generations, it has evolved to mean something cool or impressive. This duality can cause confusion, especially in mixed-age conversations.
- Bae: This term, which is often used as an affectionate term for a partner, can be misunderstood as an acronym for "Before Anyone Else." While many use it in a romantic context, its meaning can vary widely depending on the speaker’s intention and the relationship dynamics.
Cultural Context and Interpretation
Misunderstandings often arise from cultural differences. Words can carry various meanings and connotations depending on the cultural background of the speaker and the listener. For example, the word "family" may evoke a different set of associations for someone from a collectivist culture, where extended family plays a crucial role, compared to someone from an individualistic culture. Such differences can lead to miscommunication and conflict if not navigated carefully.
Understanding cultural context is essential for effective communication. It requires sensitivity to the backgrounds of others and a willingness to adapt one’s language. Misunderstandings can be avoided by asking clarifying questions or checking for understanding, fostering a more inclusive dialogue.
The Role of Tone and Delivery
Beyond words themselves, tone and delivery play a significant role in how messages are perceived. In written communication, for example, sarcasm can easily be misinterpreted without the visual cues that accompany spoken language. The phrase "Oh, great job!" might be taken at face value, while the speaker intended to convey sarcasm. This highlights the importance of being mindful of how we express ourselves, particularly in written formats like emails or social media posts, where tone can be easily lost.
Additionally, body language and facial expressions contribute to the meaning of words in face-to-face interactions. A slight change in posture or a smile can dramatically alter how a message is received. Misunderstandings can often be mitigated by paying attention to these non-verbal cues and ensuring that our delivery aligns with our intended message.
Embracing Change in Communication
As language continues to evolve, so too must our understanding of it. Embracing the changing nature of communication can enhance our interactions and foster greater connections. Rather than resisting new terms or usages, we can choose to learn and adapt, appreciating the creativity and dynamism of language.
Engaging with others in conversations about language can also promote understanding. Discussing the meanings and implications of commonly misunderstood words helps clarify intentions and reinforces the importance of context. By doing so, we can build a more inclusive communication environment, where everyone feels heard and understood.
Strategies for Effective Communication
To improve communication and reduce misunderstandings, consider the following strategies:
- Clarify and Confirm: If you are unsure about the meaning behind someone’s words, don’t hesitate to ask for clarification. Similarly, confirm that your message has been understood as intended.
- Be Mindful of Your Audience: Tailor your language to suit the people you are communicating with. Avoid jargon or slang that may not be familiar to everyone.
- Use Context Clues: Provide context when using words that might be ambiguous or easily misunderstood. This helps your audience grasp the intended meaning more quickly.
- Practice Active Listening: Focus on what others are saying without formulating your response while they speak. This allows for a better understanding of their message and fosters a more respectful dialogue.
Conclusion: The Future of Communication
As we move further into the digital age, the way we communicate will continue to evolve. Misunderstood words will likely persist, but by fostering open dialogue, embracing change, and being mindful of our language, we can minimize confusion and enhance our connections. Language is a powerful tool; when wielded thoughtfully, it can create understanding and unity amidst the chaos of interpretation and miscommunication. Let us navigate this ever-changing landscape with curiosity and respect for one another’s perspectives.

The members of King Oliver’s band are sitting in the bleachers at Comiskey Park in Chicago. A man holds up a banner reading ”White Sox Boosters” next to them. Several men (identified in accompanying note as pimps) sit in front of and next to the band. The notation on the back of the photograph indicate that this was possibly during the first game of the 1919 World Series on October 1, 1919. This, as we all know by now, was the infamous series where the Chicago White Sox threw the series against the Cincinnati Reds under the influence of Arnold Rothstein and other gamblers.

Nickel-A-Dance Fall 2024 Season to Begin on Frenchmen Street
by: OffBeat Staff
The fall 2024 season of Nickel-A-Dance, a beloved free traditional jazz concert series, is set to begin on September 29. For over three decades, Nickel-A-Dance has brought live jazz to the public, offering an afternoon of family-friendly entertainment on Sundays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This year, the series moves to a new location at Favela Chic, located at 525 Frenchmen Street, continuing its tradition on this famous music corridor.
Originally started in 1994, Nickel-A-Dance has become a staple for fans of New Orleans jazz who may not frequent nightclubs. It attracts a diverse crowd, including children, families, and seniors, all coming together to celebrate traditional jazz as America’s original dance music. This fall’s lineup will feature some of the city’s most renowned jazz musicians.
The fall series will conclude on October 27 with Gregg Stafford and The Jazz Hounds. Stafford, a respected trumpeter and vocalist, has led several prominent New Orleans jazz bands, including Danny Barker’s Jazz Hounds and the Young Tuxedo Brass Band. He has dedicated his career to preserving the musical traditions of New Orleans and remains an active figure in the city’s jazz community.

Comedy House New Orleans
The most unique comedy show in New Orleans is The Open Mic From Hell, hosted by Chris Trew (as seen on MTV, Comedy Central, America's Got Talent)
CHNO ( Comedy house New Orleans)
609-610 Fulton St
New Orleans, LA 70130
Mon, October 28
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
(Entry at 7:30 pm)
The Open Mic From Hell is the most unique night of comedy in New Orleans.
Everything about the show is chaotic and unpredictable in the most beautifully hilarious way.
The list of performers? A total mystery.
The jokes they’ll tell? Nobody knows, not even them.
How does it work? Comedians sign-up on the list an hour before showtime. At least 13 names get pulled out of the bucket.
When a name gets pulled they come on stage and make a choice - do they do an entirely new set based on words from the audience, or a special challenge set.
Past challenges have had comics doing their set outside on the street, with noise canceling headphones on, and with a designated heckler in the crowd. We are always adding new, improved, and ridiculous challenges to the show.

BEAUTIFUL DREAMERS - Minrose Gwin
Join us for an evening with author Minrose Gwin when she presents and signs her new novel, BEAUTIFUL DREAMERS.
From Minrose Gwin, award-winning author of The Accidentals, comes Beautiful Dreamers, a story of a precocious teen and her mother, their gay best friend, and the con man who unravels their family.
It’s 1953 when Memory Feather and her mother, Virginia, are welcomed back home to the Mississippi Gulf Coast community of Belle Cote by Virginia’s childhood friend Mac McFadden, whose verve and energy buoy the recently divorced Virginia to embrace this new chapter. Memory (“Mem”) is unlike other girls: she is attuned to the voices of plants and animals and is missing two fingers on her twisted left hand. The three of them knit their lives together and become a close, though unconventional, family.
While Mac’s wealth, brains, and good humor have allowed him to carve out a niche in Belle Cote, his position as a gay man active in the burgeoning Civil Rights Movement exposes him to censure, harassment, and even brutality. When the unscrupulous and charismatic Tony Amato arrives in Belle Cote as Mac’s “guest,” he sets in motion a series of events that will shatter familial bonds and forever change Mem’s life. Now, an adult Mem recounts the story of the scars Tony left in her teenage years, confronting her culpability in the disastrous events of that final summer.
Sweeping, dramatic, and vividly rendered, Beautiful Dreamers is a novel of innocence and betrayal, love and intolerance, and the care and honesty we owe the families we choose.
Minrose Gwin is the author of the novels The Queen of Palmyra, a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers pick and finalist for the John Gardner Fiction Book Award; Promise, which was shortlisted for the Willie Morris Award in Southern Literature; and The Accidentals, which received the 2020 Mississippi Institute for Arts and Letters Award in Fiction. Her fourth novel, Beautiful Dreamers, has just been released by Hub City Press. She has also published a memoir, Wishing for Snow, about the collision of poetry and psychosis in her mother’s life, and four books of literary and cultural criticism, most recently Remembering Medgar Evers: Writing the Long Civil Rights Movement. She was coeditor of The Literature of the American South, a Norton anthology, and The Southern Literary Journal. She received the Society for the Study of Southern Literature Richard Beale Davis Award for Distinguished Lifetime Service to Southern Letters and the William Wisdom/William Faulkner Books-in-Process Award for Rescue, the novel she’s working on now.
Like the characters in her novel Promise, Minrose Gwin is a native of Tupelo, Mississippi. She began her writing career as a journalist and later taught at universities across the country, most recently the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was Kenan Eminent Professor of English. She now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with her partner, Ruth Salvaggio, and several loquacious four-leggeds.

Get out your lederhosen, spruce up your dirndls and prepare to eat and drink German style — It’s time for Oktoberfest at Middendorf’s! Oktoberfest is an annual tradition that runs for 6 weeks, every Wednesday and Thursday, at Middendorf’s Manchac and Middendorf’s Slidell. It starts on Oktober 2, 2024 and ends on November 7, 2024. That’s right… Oktoberfest is so much fun that it spills over into November!
There is a different Oktoberfest meal available each week (while supplies last):
APPETIZERS
- Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfel Sosse 8.75 (German Potato Pancake with Apple Sauce)
- Maultaschen in Brühe mit Gerösteten Zwiebeln 10.95 (German Ravioli in Broth)
- Nürnbergerle 10.25 (3 small Bratwust with Sauerkraut and Pretzel)
- Riesenbrezel 10.00 (Giant Pretzel with mustard)
- Vesper Teller 14.50 (Assorted meats & cheeses served with pickle, radish, onion, mustard and pretzel)
- Weisswurst 10.25 (White Sausage served with pretzel and sweet mustard)
- Wurstsalat 9.25 (Chopped German Salami, Cold Cuts, Cheeses, Pickles and Onion tossed in Vinaigrette)
- It’s the Chef’s Choice which appetizers will be available each week. Stay tuned!
ENTREES & DESSERTS (A different meal is available each week of Oktoberfest.)
- 10/30/24 & 10/31/24 — Schweinshaxe, Bayerischkraut und Brezel 21.50 (Pork Hind Shank/Ham Hock, Smothered Cabbage and Pretzel); Apfel Strudel mit Vanille Eis 7.25 (Apple Strudel with Vanilla Ice Cream)
11/6/24 & 11/7/24 — Wiener Schnitzel und Geröstet Semmelknödel mit Pilzrahmsoße, Gemischtem Salat und Brezel 19.50 (Breaded Thin Pork Loin and Dumpling with Mushroom Cream Sauce, Salad and Pretzel); Schwarzwälderkirschtorte 7.25 (Black Forest Cake)
The German expertise comes from Middendorf’s Owner and European Master Chef Horst Pfeifer who is a native of Germany. He grew-up in the hamlet of Bächlingen where his family still lives today. The village was established in 950 AD and boasts a grand population of around 150 people.
“It’s an honor to share my German heritage with everyone through the recipes that I grew up with,” said Middendorf’s Owner Horst Pfeifer. “I think Louis Middendorf would have been so happy to see Oktoberfest here at the restaurant. Louis was also from Germany, and he founded Middendorf’s back in 1934 with his wife, Josie. It’s funny because Middendorf’s is so widely known for seafood that a lot of people don’t realize that Middendorf is actually a German name.”
- During Oktoberfest, there is a different German meal available each week for lunch and dinner, 10:30am-9:00pm (while supplies last). Guests who eat an Oktoberfest meal for all six weeks will receive an Oktoberfest Prize! Punch cards must be punched each week and turned in on the final week.
- The full regular menu is also available for guests. So, you can have a German meal, and your friend can have the Thin Fried Catfish. Everyone’s happy!
- Of course, we have a great selection of German beer and liqueur to go with your German meal (see below).
- Authentic German music is also in store for Oktoberfest. We’ll have live accordion music every night of Oktoberfest, 4:30pm-8:30pm. In Manchac, David C. Symons will join us. In Slidell, Will Robichaux will play for the 1st week, and then for the next 5 weeks, it will be Greg Speck (aka Captain Squeeze).
- Join in the fun by dressing up in your favorite lederhosen, dirndls and German accessories just like our front of house staff. We’ll have a great variety of hats and souvenirs in our gift shop.

Corsica, a French island in the Mediterranean, has a fascinating wine culture that's shaped by its unique blend of French and Italian influences, rugged terrain, and Mediterranean climate. Despite being part of France, Italy’s influence on Corsica is profound, shaping the island’s culture, language, architecture, cuisine, and especially its wine traditions. Corsica was under Genoese rule for nearly five centuries (from the late 13th century until 1768), and its proximity to Tuscany and Sardinia also contributed to strong Italian connections.
Most of the Corsican grapes have ties to Italy as well. Nielluccio is Corsica’s most important red grape and is genetically very similar to Sangiovese, Italy’s iconic grape, particularly from Tuscany. Vermentino, known in Corsica as Malvoisie de Corse, is widely planted in both Corsica and Sardinia, as well as in regions of mainland Italy like Liguria and Tuscany. It is thought to have originated from Italy, possibly Liguria, and spread across the Mediterranean. Sciaccarello, another key red grape of Corsica, is believed to be related to Mammolo, a lesser-known grape from Tuscany. Mammolo is often used in blends, such as in Chianti, but in Corsica, Sciaccarello has developed a distinct identity.
Even after France acquired Corsica in 1768, Italian influence remained deeply embedded in the island’s identity. Many Corsicans still feel a closer cultural affinity to Italy than to mainland France, especially given the shared history, language, and food traditions. This dual identity makes Corsica unique within France, with its Italian roots constantly blending with French culture to create something distinct. It also contributes to the island’s distinctive wine style—one that’s both rustic and refined, combining the structure of Italian reds with the elegance of French whites.
Corsican wines are still relatively under the radar, which makes them an exciting discovery for wine drinkers looking for something new and unique. Dave Sobiesk will accompany us on this tour as Artisan Fine Wines has a great selection from the island for us to choose from. I hope you'll join us! Use this link for tickets,Corsica

Billy Nungesser Lt. Governor of Louisiana
For the fourth consecutive year, Louisiana will showcase its vibrant culture in the 2025 Tournament of Rose Parade in Pasadena, California! This year’s float, featuring a Louisiana alligator adorned with beads, a Cajun dance hall, and pots of boiled seafood, perfectly captures the essence of a “Louisiana Saturday Night.” Plus, enjoy mid-parade entertainment by rising country star Timothy Wayne!
We can’t wait to share Louisiana’s celebratory spirit and unique culture with the world once again.

Super Bowl LIX may happen more than three weeks before Fat Tuesday, but the host committee wants to make sure the city -- and the throngs of visitors in town for the NFL's championship game -- get the carnival experience.
The day before the game, February 8, there will be a Mardi Gras-style parade complete with elaborate floats, marching bands, and throws.
Our partners at NOLA.com report details of the parade are still being finalized, but float-builder Barry Kern says it will likely be a 20-float parade made up of signature floats from various krewes.
And because it is not an official carnival parade, corporate sponsors will also be a part of it.
Todd Graves, founder of Baton Rouge-based Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, will serve as grand marshal.
Rather than follow one of the traditional Mardi Gras routes, the Super Bowl parade will line up on Elysian Fields in the Marigny, parade up Decatur Street along the French Quarter, then take Tchoupitoulas St. to Poydras, turn up to St. Charles Ave., then proceed along St. Charles to St. Joseph St. just before reaching Harmony Circle.
