VSU Political Institute Seeks Data From Black Voters
|
Virginia State University's John Mercer Langston Institute (JMLI) for Political Leadership is seeking help from Black voters to participate in a survey to learn more about their attitudes toward current events and today's political climate. The Institute is seeking individuals who are Black/of African descent and live in Virginia to participate in the survey.
The JMLI was established to aid in developing, empowering, and cultivating African American leadership in the Commonwealth of Virginia through innovative training, policy collection, and assistance, programming, research, and networking.
This is the third time the JMLI has issued its "Black Virginia Voters Poll," which aims to learn more about the opinions and viewpoints of Black Virginia Voters during an election year.
The survey is open to all Black individuals in Virginia, regardless of their political affiliations. The JMLI hopes to reach a diverse group of participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the community's attitudes toward current news and events and the state of politics.
The poll is available now until September 9, 2024. The poll's findings will be presented at the JMLI Closing Ceremony on September 30, 2024, at the VSU Gateway Dining Event Center at 5:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Fellow Alumni,
As we chart the course for VSUAA’s future, let us draw inspiration from Proverbs 16:3: "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans." This powerful verse, written by King Solomon, reminds us that true success comes not from our own understanding but from entrusting our plans to God. Solomon, who led Israel to great heights, understood that divine guidance is the foundation for any lasting achievement.
As we make decisions and set goals, let us commit every plan to the Lord, trusting that He will guide our steps and establish the work of our hands. When we dedicate our efforts to God, He takes our hopes and dreams and shapes them into something far greater than we could imagine.
As we unite in service to our beloved university, let us trust that our commitment will not only strengthen the future of VSUAA but also reflect God's faithfulness in our lives. Together, guided by His wisdom, we can lead with purpose and make a lasting difference. With Him as our partner, our efforts will bear fruit far beyond what we can envision.
Rev. Kenyana Dawson

Become A VSU Class Coordinator
The VSU Class Coordinator Program comprises a loyal group of alumni representing their individual class years. Class Coordinators are considered University ambassadors who help build a strong connection between classmates and the University.
Class Coordinators are some of the most valuable volunteers for the University. Job requirements are simple: a minimal time commitment and the interest to keep in touch with VSU classmates and friends. Being a class coordinator is a great way to remain involved after graduation, and you can be as active as your schedule allows.
Class Coordinators work with the VSU Alumni Office to:
- Communicate regularly with classmates via letters, calls, emails, or social networking Websites.
- Keep classmates up-to-date on VSU events and news.
- Encourage and increase participation in alumni activities such as regional events and reunions.
- Brainstorm additional ways to keep your class connected.
- Serve as a reunion planning committee member in your special reunion years.
- Promote class giving and participation
- Provide the University of Institutional Advancement with updated contact information for classmates
If you want to become a class coordinator, please get in touch with the VSU Alumni Relations Office at (804) 524- 5045 or email alumni@vsu.edu.
(If you don't see your class year represented, please consider becoming a coordinator)
