Readiness Cannot Be Borrowed:
A Call to Strengthen Our Ministries
Scripture: Matthew 25:1–13
As our congregation continues its mission to reach, touch, and serve, the message of Jesus in Matthew 25:1–13 invites us to reflect on the importance of spiritual readiness in our personal lives and in the ministries of our church.
In the parable of the ten bridesmaids, Jesus tells of five who were prepared for the bridegroom's arrival and five who were not. When the bridegroom finally came, those who had prepared were ready to enter the wedding banquet, while the others discovered that preparation could not be borrowed at the last minute. Their lack of readiness left them outside, unable to participate in the celebration.
This powerful message reminds us that while we serve together as a church family, each of us bears responsibility for nurturing our own faith and remaining spiritually prepared for God's call. Readiness is not something that can be transferred from one person to another. It is developed through a consistent relationship with God, rooted in prayer, worship, obedience, and trust.
Church ministries are more than programs, meetings, and activities. They are opportunities to share God's love, strengthen discipleship, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Whether through worship, prayer, Christian education, outreach, visitation, hospitality, or stewardship, every ministry requires spiritual preparation and faithful commitment. When members remain grounded in prayer, God's Word, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, their service becomes more effective, meaningful, and life-giving.
The parable also challenges us to consider how we prepare for the responsibilities entrusted to our congregation. Our Worship Ministry seeks to prepare hearts for meaningful praise and worship. Our Prayer Ministry faithfully intercedes for the needs of our church, community, and world. Christian Education and Discipleship ministries help believers grow in spiritual understanding and maturity. Outreach and Mission ministries demonstrate Christ's compassion by responding to the needs of our neighbors. Pastoral Care and Visitation ministries remind us of the importance of reaching those who are sick, grieving, homebound, or in need of encouragement. Each ministry plays a vital role in helping the church fulfill its mission, and when members are spiritually prepared and committed to serving, the entire congregation is strengthened.
Matthew 25:1–13 serves as a reminder that readiness cannot be borrowed. We can encourage one another, pray together, and learn from one another, but each person must cultivate their own faith. This passage invites every member to renew their commitment to worship, prayer, discipleship, and active participation in the life of the church. Readiness means being prepared not only for the coming of Christ but also for the opportunities God places before us each day to serve, care, teach, lead, and share the Gospel.
As we move forward together, let us continue strengthening our ministries through prayer, intentional preparation, and faithful service. May our church be a community where spiritual growth is encouraged, every member is equipped for ministry, and God's love is made visible through our actions.
The call is clear: prepare our hearts, strengthen our ministries, and remain faithful in the work God has entrusted to us. May we continue to reach, touch, and serve with lamps burning brightly as we await the coming of our Lord.
"Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour."
